We love seeing #OnOurSleevesInAction and hearing how families are using what they’ve learned to support kids’ mental wellness every day! Teresa and her 4-year-old son, Vincent used what they learned from On Our Sleeves and shared a special moment during their trip to Phoenix! While hiking, they practiced mindfulness—taking in the sights, sounds, and feelings around them while reflecting on gratitude for their bodies, the sunshine, and time with loved ones. Teresa shared: “When we stopped to take a selfie, Vincent made a heart with his hands, unprompted. It gave me another thing to be thankful for: this program that reminds us to be mindful and connect to our feelings.” This is what #OnOurSleevesinAction is all about—simple moments of connection that help kids with their mental wellness! 💭 What moments with your family make you pause and feel grateful? At just two days old, Jacob was rushed to Dayton Children's for emergency surgery, where doctors discovered he had cystic fibrosis. His early months were filled with hospital stays, major surgeries, and a whirlwind of emotions for his mom and dad. As first time parents, Angie and Tony were overwhelmed, not knowing what cystic fibrosis meant for their son's future. But from the very beginning, Dayton Children's provided not just expert medical care, but also the guidance, reassurance, and compassion they needed. Beyond his physical health, Jacob's team also supported his mental well-being - because living with a chronic illness isn't just about managing symptoms, it's about thriving. 💫 Today, Jacob is an unstoppable 10-year-old. He's one belt away from a black belt in Taekwondo, plays elite-level soccer, and is a math whiz at school. For Jacob, what mattered most was having a team that truly cared - not just about his health, but about him. 💙 #WhatMattersMost #DaytonChildrens

We are continuing our Doctors' Day celebration by shining a spotlight on our 19 pediatric psychiatrists, members of our U.S. News & World Report ranked behavioral health team! 💕 These doctors provide compassionate, expert care for children and teens facing complex mental health conditions. From treating depression and mood disorders to managing post-traumatic stress, they bring hope and healing when it matters most. And soon, they’ll have even more resources to support kids and families with the opening of the Mathile Center for Mental Health and Wellness this summer! This new facility is a major step forward in ensuring that every child gets the mental health care they deserve. Our psychiatrists go above and beyond by: 🤝 Collaborating across specialties - working closely with psychologists, social workers and medical teams for holistic care. 🧠 Ensuring the right level of care - combining expertise, compassion and empathy to help change the trajectory of a child’s life. 💡 Staying at the forefront of innovation - using the latest research and evidence-based practices. 🗣️ Advocating for youth mental health - working within our community to raise awareness and break down barriers to care. “Our psychiatrists go above and beyond to address Dayton Children's commitment to the youth mental health crisis. Every day, they provide compassionate, specialized care that transforms lives,” said Kelly Blankenship, DO, associate chief medical officer and division chief of psychiatry. Today, and every day, we’re so grateful for their unwavering commitment to the mental health and wellbeing of our patients. Is it allergies or asthma? 🤔 Seasonal allergies are ramping up, but if your child has frequent coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath - especially at night or during play - it could be more than just seasonal sniffles. Asthma symptoms can worsen during allergy season, making it important to recognize the signs. 🚨Seek immediate medical attention if your child is struggling to breath, using their chest muscles to breath, or experiencing rapid breathing. Learn more about asthma symptoms and when to be concerned ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eHKYWizZ Asthma can impact daily life, but with the right treatment, kids can breathe easier! #WhenToBeConcerned #DaytonChildrens

🌍💜 Today, on World Epilepsy Day, we shine a light on Emalyne’s journey with Dravet syndrome—an epilepsy diagnosis that changed her family's life. Emalyne had her first seizure at just 3 months old. New parents, Michele and Jeffery, were terrified and unsure of what was happening. By the time they reached Dayton Children's Hospital, she had been seizing for an hour. What followed was months of uncertainty, testing, and trials of different medications. But Dayton Children's neurologist, Dr. Gogi Kumar continued to search for answers alongside Emalyne's family. Finally, at 8 months old, Emalyne was diagnosed with Dravet syndrome, a rare and severe form of epilepsy that is difficult to control. Thanks to the trusted care of Dr. Kumar and the neurology team at Dayton Children's, Emalyne has received life-changing treatments, including a vagus nerve stimulator (VNS) that has dramatically reduced her seizures. Emalyne attends school with her seizure alert dog Sif and has a nurse who takes care of her and knows how to react if a seizure occurs. She continues to see Dr. Kumar to manage her medication and make sure she has the best quality of life! Help us show Emalyne and all those with epilepsy some 💜 today!
