#PostOfTheWeek In areas of South America, crime gangs are trafficking illegally sourced natural resources or laundering illicit funds through seemingly legitimate use of Amazon land. Part I of this blog series looked at the role of organised crime in this destruction. In Part II, now released, Emma Kerr looks at what is being done to combat these crimes and offers recommendations on what governments can do to reduce the environmental damage. https://buff.ly/9AJFRVM @

#EarthDay2025 Why does supporting innovative research at the intersection of climate change, biodiversity loss, and poverty alleviation matter? Biodiversity loss is a major global challenge, intricately linked to both climate change and poverty. To tackle these crises, we need solutions that address all three - nature, climate, and people - in an integrated way. This Earth Day, we are sharing a recording from our The Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate (GCBC) Symposium held in March, where experts, including Professor Alexandre Antonelli, Director of Science at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, featured in the video clip, discuss how biodiversity restoration can mitigate climate change and foster sustainable development. The GCBC funds research that explores these connections, supporting locally led solutions that restore biodiversity while building climate resilience and improving livelihoods. 🌍 Since its inception, GCBC has funded 42 projects and partnered with 126 organisations to deliver impactful, science-based solutions that make a difference at the community level. The 🇪🇺 European Union-funded Urban Development Technical Facility (UDTF) supported the EU Delegation to Angola 🇦🇴 in assessing #SolidWaste management challenges in Luanda Province. The #study identified key issues, including 🗑️ waste accumulation in hard-to-reach areas, ♻️ low recycling rates, 💸 financial instability, and the informal status of many waste sector workers. It recommended strengthening regulatory oversight, decentralizing responsibilities, and formalizing informal workers. Key proposals include establishing a unified regulatory framework, enhancing local financial autonomy, and involving the private sector in waste management. These findings will guide the design of a new EU-funded programme aimed at improving #WasteCollection, promoting a #CircularEconomy, and attracting investment in sustainable waste infrastructure. 📷 Photo by Hans Ripa on Unsplash #EU I #Angola I #EUD_Angola I #DG_INTPA I Jacques-Emmanuel REMY I Adriana Vega-Sánchez I Eva Bufi I Anja Van Der Watt I Stéphane Neyreneuf I Anna Carla Di Sario I #UDTF I

Earlier this month, as part of the Climate Just Communities (CJC) programme, we had the privilege of attending the Global Disability Summit (GDS) in Berlin. The Summit, hosted by the German Federal Government, the Government of Jordan, and the International Disability Alliance . We were honoured to be part of the Scottish Government delegation. And were delighted to meet with the Scottish Minister for Equalities, Kaukab Stewart. The Minister highlighted how the CJC programme is supporting inclusive climate resilience – particularly through the work underway in Malawi, and across the Zambia and Rwanda country lots. The CJC programme, funded by the Scottish Government, is entering its third and final year of implementation, concluding in March 2026. It is being implemented across three countries: Malawi, Rwanda, and Zambia. DAI is proud to lead the Malawi lot, with SCIAF leading in Rwanda and NIRAS in Zambia. 📢 To learn more about the CJC Programme’s work, follow the Climate Just Communities (CJC) Programme LinkedIn page. For any questions about the CJC Malawi project, please contact Project Manager, Hermonda Kalludra.

In Amman, the EU-funded Clima-Med - Acting for Climate in South Mediterranean project brought together key representatives from Jordanian ministries and the EU Delegation to take stock of achievements and chart a path forward. A major outcome was the agreement to develop a climate action #roadmap for #Jordanian #cities, with a strong emphasis on unlocking #climate #finance opportunities. This milestone reflects Clima-Med’s broader mission across the region. Ahead of the EU Neighbours South communication programme, Team Leader Naguib Amin joined the 3Q Talks #interview series to share how the project supports #SouthernNeighbourhood countries in advancing toward a climate-resilient future - while empowering #municipalities and #youth to lead the way. Through the DAI-implemented project, national climate strategies, local action plans, targeted communication efforts, and the Covenant of Mayors Mediterranean are being translated into lasting impact. #EU I European Union in Jordan I #Jordan I Oussama Kaassamani I Myriam Makdissi I Fatima-Zahra EL GHABI I Rania Kaassamani I Alexandra Papadopoulou I Olgu Okumus (PhD) I Paul Tabet I Walid Abu_Alhalaweh I Ruslan Zhechkov I Malek Mardam Bey I Nadya Boneva I Masa Stojsavljevic ➡️ https://lnkd.in/g69dNSw2
