As the weather gets warmer, it’s important to prioritize safety in and around the water. To help prevent slip-and-fall accidents, diving injuries, and waterborne illnesses, CCDPH conducts annual inspections of pools, spas, and spray pads throughout suburban Cook County. Be sure to make pool safety a priority. #NationalPublicHealthWeek #PoolSafety

Did you know that seatbelts are one of the most effective public health interventions? They play a major role in reducing injuries and saving lives in car crashes. ⚠️ In 2022, half of passenger vehicle occupants who died in crashes in the U.S. were unrestrained. ⚠️ From 1975 to 2017, seat belts have saved an estimated 374,276 lives in the U.S. Make it a habit to buckle up and keep yourself and your loved ones safe. #BuckleUpAmerica #SeatBeltSafety #NationalPublicHealthWeek

🌟 30 Days of Public Health: Public Health Heroes Today, we celebrate Dr. Rachel Rubin, MD, MPH, a public health hero whose career is dedicated to strengthening public health systems and protecting community well-being across Cook County. Since 2014, Dr. Rubin has served as Senior Medical Officer at Cook County Department of Public Health, overseeing key areas like communicable diseases, environmental health services, and tuberculosis medical services. From 2020 to 2022, she co-led the department through the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating exceptional crisis management and leadership during one of the most challenging times in public health. Beyond her administrative leadership, Dr. Rubin is an educator and mentor, shaping the next generation of public health professionals as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health and core faculty for Cook County Health’s Preventive Medicine residency program. Her work on occupational health and safety grants from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the U.S. Department of Labor further underscores her commitment to worker health and safety. 👏 Join us in recognizing Dr. Rachel Rubin for her dedication to community health, public health leadership, and mentorship! #30DaysOfPublicHealth #NPHW #PublicHealthHeroes
