✨ Though we are still under construction, we are thrilled you can see works from the Lucas Museum's collection in the exhibition ‘Vincent Valdez: Just a Dream…,’ at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston through March 23. 🖼️ At the Lucas Museum, we believe in the power of narrative art to connect us, shape beliefs, communicate values, inspire imagination, and create communities, and Vincent Valdez's work, which addresses the failings and triumphs of contemporary American society with a focus on collective memory and overlooked political histories, is a true example of this. Did you know some of artist Vincent Valdez’s work is influenced by cinema? 🎬 “My references are filmmakers. I’ve been very moved over my lifetime by the scale of the movie screen. It shaped so much of my own perception about Americanism, my American identity and my role and place in this ongoing narrative.” There’s only TWO weeks left to see the exhibition Vincent Valdez: Just a Dream…🌅 in Houston! 📍 Visit CAMH before March 23, 2025 to see it. Vincent Valdez: Just a Dream… will be on view at MASS MoCA from May 24, 2025 – April 5, 2026. 🗓

Congratulations to our student-artists from South Central Early College! Earlier this month, students debuted the artworks made through CAMH’s Teaching Artists-in-Classrooms program at the Houston Public Library's Johnson Neighborhood Library. 📚 These wonderful works are a result of a collaborative initiative that integrates professional artists into school settings, fostering creativity and self expression among students at South Early College High School. Under teaching artist Carlos Mendoza, students were encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, especially as many had never considered themselves artists. 🖌 Support your local library and student artists by making a visit to Johnson Neighborhood Library soon! Through Our Eyes: The Art of Family, Friendship, and Pastimes is on view through May 27, 2025. For more information, visit https://lnkd.in/eF4F9nsH

Celebrate the art created by students thanks to the Teaching Artists-In-Classrooms initiative! 🎉 🖼 Over a span of several months, South Early College High School, Houston Public Library, and Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH), have collaborated in a long term art project to promote student artwork. Teaching Artist Carlos Mendoza encouraged the students to explore new techniques and mediums to create vibrant self-portraits that reflect relationships with family, friends, and pastimes. Each artwork on display serves as a vibrant reflection of personal narratives and stands as a testament to the transformative potential of artistic enrichment for all students. We invite the community to join us for the celebration of these students and their artwork at the Opening Celebration of the exhibition “Through Our Eyes: The Art of Family, Friendship, and Pastimes” which will be on view at Johnson Neighborhood Library from February 13–May 27, 2025. 🎉 Opening Celebration | Through Our Eyes: The Art of Family, Friendship, and Pastimes 📍 Johnson Neighborhood Library 🗓 Wednesday, February 12, 2024 | 5–7PM This event is free to attend, RSVP is recommended. To RSVP ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gb8bQqFq ✨ Teaching Artists-In-Classrooms at CAMH is funded in part by the Arts Connect Houston Arts Action Fund and the Texas Commission on the Arts.
