At last night’s Board of Education Meeting, we recognized students from the Emerging Leaders Civic Engagement Program! 🎉 There are 10 students in this program, all selected through a competitive process that included nominations, interviews, and a thorough review of over 40 applicants. Donzell Franklin, the program leader, highlighted how important it is for young people to start early in becoming decision-makers. 🗣️ Each student shared their experiences, offering both praise and constructive feedback on the district and identifying areas for improvement. We are grateful for their honesty and proud of their thoughtful solutions to the challenges they face. 🙌✨

Last night at the Committee of the Whole Meeting, we proudly celebrated Sarah Valerio, an exceptional teacher at Crete-Monee High School, for being named one of 30 finalists for the 2025 Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching! 🎉 This prestigious recognition follows a careful review of over 470 nominations from high school educators across Illinois. CMHS Principal Lamont Holifield, who nominated Sarah, spoke about her incredible impact, and Sarah shared her thoughts on the honor. Her family was there to support her in this well-deserved moment. CMHS Principal Lamont Holifield and teacher Sarah Valerio recently presented the school’s Educators Rising program at the Illinois Education and Career Success Network Conference in Champaign! 🎓✨ Their session highlighted how CMHS is inspiring the next generation of educators and creating new opportunities for change. From key recruitment strategies to innovative partnerships, they’re paving the way for a brighter future in education. The Educators Rising program, launched in 2021, was a result of Principal Holifield’s leadership in securing a $300,000 grant to build an Education Pathway across multiple local districts. Teacher Sarah Valerio has been instrumental in making this vision a reality! Dr. Kara Coglianese, our Superintendent, proudly represented the school district at the Black History Success & Empowerment Expo hosted by The Village of University Park and the Village of Monee Recreation & Parks Department! ✊🏾 The event, held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, was a huge success! From diverse community vendors to impactful speakers in our Speaker’s Circle, everyone walked away inspired by the powerful messages of Black history, hope, and empowerment. 🙌🏽 It was a wonderful celebration of Black history that united our local communities in the spirit of success and empowerment!

💖 Last week on Friday, February 14, 2025, our wellness team hosted the "First Love Yourself" (FLY) Wellness Initiative! A day dedicated to encouraging self-care, personal growth, and well-being for all of our amazing staff members. The event reminded everyone to prioritize their health and happiness, creating a supportive and caring work environment.
