Clipper Petroleum operates as a convenience store retailer, fast food retailer, and wholesale fuel distributor.

About us

Clipper Petroleum opened in 1933 as the W.F. Homeyer Oil Company. But after Homeyer flew around-the-world on the Pan-Am Clipper airplane in 1957, he changed his company’s name to Clipper Petroleum in honor of the beloved plane. In 1974, Tom Bower II “Senior” and Robert Braff, both with years of experience in the oil industry, bought Clipper Petroleum. In 1977, current president Tom Bower III joined the company. That same year, Clipper opened its first retail convenience store in Gainesville, Georgia. With over 50 years of family ownership, Tom Bower III still serves as president with daughters Haley Bower-Frank, chief marketing officer, and Caroline Filchak, chief strategy officer, working alongside him. With a commitment to continued family ownership, the next generation of leadership is dedicated to pursuing excellence in every aspect of Clipper Petroleum. Clipper operates 23 convenience stores, 4 Subways, and 2 Bojangles restaurants. We also distribute fuel to over 300 partner locations across the Southeast under a variety of major fuel brands.
