About us
Climate Action Evanston is a non-profit organization of 2,700+ members working to make our community a national leader in climate mitigation and resilience by advocating for strong climate policy, educating the public, and forging alliances across the community. Our priority is the swift and comprehensive implementation of Evanston's Climate Action and Resilience Plan. We understand that sustainability and equity go hand in hand and are striving to be anti-racist in all of our endeavors. We are an umbrella group for several programs and committees including Go Evanston, Edible Evanston, Natural Habitat Evanston, Beyond Waste Evanston, Watershed Collective and an active Energy Committee. We work with City staff and the Evanston Environment Board to achieve the ambitious goals set forth by CARP including carbon neutrality and zero waste by 2050, 100% renewable energy by 2035. Additionally we have strong alliances with Evanston Community Foundation, Evanston Fight For Black Lives, Collective Resource Composting, Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse, the Evanston Township High School Sustainability Committee, District 65 Green Team, EvanSTEM, Latinos En the North Shore (LENS), Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, Evanston's Juneteenth Parade and others.

Take a deeper listen to our Executive Director, Jack Jordan, as he explains how Climate Action Evanston's mission is to take action to destabilize systems of the climate crisis and accelerate action to address the root causes. Some core ways in which Climate Action Evanston practices climate resilience are through our three modes of action - to serve, to educate and to advocate. To serve in our communities to benefit our climate, to educate everyone on the climate crisis and steps they can take to fix it, and to advocate for systemic reform to push policies and effectively implement these changes in our community. We'd love to see in the comments below what actions you are taking this Earth Month. We have plenty of ways you can get involved here in Evanston and be a catalyst for change - check out our Earth Month calendar link here: https://lnkd.in/gtikcxHM to learn more. #weareclimateactionevanston #earthmonth #ecofriendly #community #evanston #sustainability

Earth Month is observed every year in April and brings a range of environmentally focused celebrations across the globe! Earth Month is a time to raise environmental awareness and create consciousness around issues such as pollution, climate change, endangered species and more that affect mother nature during this critical time of climate crisis. This Earth Month, Climate Action Evanston is kicking off a campaign to showcase all the impactful actions we take to accelerate climate change through service, education and advocacy. We will highlight our six program areas - Natural Habitat Evanston, Edible Evanston, Beyond Waste, Environmental Justice Evanston (EJE), Energy and Go Evanston, that make effective changes in the people, places and policies of Evanston. Our goal is to amplify local climate work and demonstrate how the most powerful impact you can have is in your community, where you can be a catalyst for change. #weareclimateactionevanston #earthmonth #ecofriendly #community #evanston #sustainability

This spring the EEJCS is hosting Maria Hadden, alderwoman of the 49th Ward and the first Black, queer woman elected to Chicago City Council. She represents the 49th Ward – dubbed, “Little Chicago,” because of the racial, ethnic, and economic demographics that most reflect Chicago’s diversity. On Saturday, April 5, a panel of local Evanston representatives will be in conversation with Alderwoman Hadden about what we can learn from successes, barriers, and new prospects related to her work on environmental justice. We hope to see you there 😊. Register by clicking our Earth Month calendar here: https://lnkd.in/gtikcxHM #weareclimateactionevanston #youthcommittee #community #earthmonth
