This week we celebrated Arbor Day and Take Your Child to Work Day by planting a tree at the new MidTown Collaboration Center. With this tree, we invest in the environment and also in our children's futures. By planting a tree, we contribute to a greener, healthier world for ourselves and for future generations. A tree is a symbol of hope for future generations to come and continues the Cleveland Foundation's legacy of environmental stewardship!

The relationship between the Cleveland Foundation and Cleveland Metroparks goes back over 100 years. As a result of a 1919 study commissioned by the Cleveland Foundation, public funding and land was acquired for the establishment of the Cleveland Metroparks. In 2014, the Cleveland Foundation Centennial Trail was named in recognition of the foundation’s commitment to the Cleveland Metroparks and our century-long mission of enhancing the lives of Greater Clevelanders through place-based philanthropy. To celebrate Earth Day, share your favorite part of the Cleveland Metroparks to explore!

Community engagement is at the heart of Hyland's DNA. In 2022, Hyland partnered with the Cleveland Foundation to establish the Hyland Fund to support organizations and programs that build and inspire careers in technology. By working closely with their advisor at the Cleveland Foundation, Hyland was able to expand their grantmaking review committee to Hyland team members across their organization. Tracy Petrakis, Program Manager of Community Engagement, shares that the collaboration and thought leadership of the Cleveland Foundation helped to build the strategy of the Hyland Fund. Hyland has grown their technology outreach programs in their headquarters in Westlake and in their new space in the MidTown Collaboration Center which will offer technology education programming for the community. The Cleveland Tree Coalition partners with many community organizations to rebuild the urban forest using the Cleveland Tree Plan as a guide. Sara Tillie, Director of the Cleveland Tree Coalition, shares, "The coalition strives to create a healthy, vibrant, sustainable, and equitable urban forest by working collaboratively and leveraging resources. The urban tree canopy faces numerous challenges. Development, deferred maintenance, extreme weather events, and old age are some of the major reasons our canopy is declining. As a coalition we focus on supporting planting and maintenance of new trees, as well as stewardship of the existing canopy."
