A group of City Colleges of Chicago student leaders, including those from the Timuel D. Black Scholarship & Fellowship program, recently returned from an inspiring trip through Alabama. They visited historic sites in Selma, Montgomery, and Birmingham, walking in the footsteps of those who fought for justice and equality. A defining moment of the trip was crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge on the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday—an opportunity to reflect on the bravery of those who risked everything for the right to vote. This experience was not just about history; it was about carrying forward the lessons of resilience, leadership, and collective action. Thank you City Colleges of Chicago Foundation, Veronica Herrero, Jennifer M., Maggie West, and Nathaniel Ward for making this trip possible.

Students at Chicago Military Academy (Chicago Public Schools) will soon have expanded access to energy-focused career opportunities through a new partnership with ComEd and City Colleges of Chicago-Kennedy-King College’s Dawson Technical Institute. The partnership will help CMA students earn an associate degree in select STEM fields while still in high school—setting them up for career success. “The Early College STEM program is about creating pathways to success, igniting futures, and empowering students to shape the world and their career trajectory in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,” said City Colleges Chancellor Juan Salgado. “By partnering with Chicago Public Schools and City Colleges of Chicago, ComEd is investing in education and the future success of our great city and state." https://lnkd.in/dyvWrv86

For many, Black History Month is a time to reflect—to honor the resilience and achievements of those who came before us. For City Colleges of Chicago-Harold Washington College’s Neveah Hester and City Colleges of Chicago-Wilbur Wright College’s Keith Tankson, it’s also a call to action. Austin, one of Chicago’s largest neighborhoods, has over 95,000 residents but only two grocery stores. Rather than waiting for change, Neveah and Keith created it. What began as a six-week pop-up in 2020 has grown into Austin Harvest—a thriving fresh food market bringing affordable, healthy options to their community. They’re not just learning about history; they’re making it. Read more about their inspiring work: https://lnkd.in/g-CntEwq
