Update on Austin St. Mayor John Whitmire and Houston Public Works have developed a great model for Austin St., which is undergoing infrastructure upgrades, including drainage and water line improvements. In the future, it will follow the Heights Blvd. model. There will be a dedicated bike lane on the street, in addition to street parking, much as it appears on Heights. It is intended to follow the flow of traffic in one direction. A design choice that prioritizes safety. Thank you to @DistrictDHTX Carolyn Evans Shabazz for her support.

Experience and collaboration matter. Mayor Whitmire will work with anyone in the best interest of @HoustonTX. By collaborating with federal, state and local partners, we can prepare for storms, make street repairs, and address public safety. Here is more from his Hello Houston interview on Houston Public Media. earlier this week.

On Tuesdays, Mayor Whitmire and City Council present proclamations to outstanding individuals and organizations. Today, they recognized zTrip for its outstanding partnership in providing critical transportation services during times of crisis, extreme weather, and power outages. During Winter Storm Enzo, from January 19 to January 24, 2025, zTrip provided over 750 rides, ensuring safe transport to warming centers amid dangerously cold temperatures. zTrip’s commitment to public safety is evident through the dedication of its employees, who continued operations in sub-freezing and hazardous conditions. For the past three years, zTrip has been a vital partner in ensuring safe, on-demand transportation for Houstonians in need.

Today, the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority (HCHSA) gave the Mayor and Council an update on FIFA World Cup 2026 preparations, and unveiled the new Official FIFA World Cup 26 Houston Host City Poster that was made in partnership with local artist Stephanie Leal that celebrates and captures the unique essence of Houston. Ryan Walsh CEO of the Harris County Sports Authority, explained that when he was appointed to HCHSA by Mayor Whitmire four months ago, “The charge was made clear to bring fresh perspective, drive meaningful change, and realign our core values and mission. It was evident that we needed strong leadership and strategic direction to fulfill our mission to oversee world-class sport venues and position Houston as the premier destination for events that drive economic growth and enhance residents’ quality of life. To be the most innovative, efficient, and trusted sports authority, we must lead with accountability, transparency, and collaboration. Houston sports venues are more than just stadiums, they are economic engines and the foundation of our reputation as a sports destination.” The HCHSA senior leadership team is focused on these three key areas in all FIFA World Cup preparations: 1) Greater accountability to the city, county, citizens and stakeholders in the Houston area, 2) Transparency, keeping people in the know about what they are doing and how they are doing it, and 3) Being more collaborative with stakeholders including the major sports teams, citizens, and organizations like HoustonFirst, the Greater Houston Partnership etc,. FIFA World Cup 2026 celebrations and activities in Houston will last 39 days although Houston is only hosting 7 games. The HCHSA is ready for it and hopes you are just as excited and ready as they are! Stay informed here: https://lnkd.in/eWMRUuu8
