  • After seeing upward trends in gun violence and homicides, the City of Bakersfield, Councilmembers and the Bakersfield Police Department implemented a Gun Violence Reduction Strategy in 2021. Working directly with community members, those most at-risk and prioritizing public safety, the number of incidents in 2024 compared to 2021 dropped significantly. On Friday, City Manager Christian Clegg announced homicide rates dropped 57 percent and shootings dropped 60 percent during that time frame. The trends are promising, but there’s still plenty of work to be done, as the City continues to prioritize public safety.
