The Institute of Aging (IA) is a national leader in addressing health research priorities for older adults. IA initiatives not only link and support researchers located in universities and hospitals across the country, but also bring together different levels of government, practitioners, voluntary health organizations and older adults themselves.
Together our community is working to increase our knowledge about aging, in order to help address the challenges facing Canada's growing older adults' population and to promote the elements of healthy and successful aging.

We celebrated an inspiring two days at our inaugural REDI Forum, which was filled with motivating talks, valuable networking activities, and enriching professional development opportunities.
A heartfelt thank you to all the awardees, mentors, partners, organizers, and invited guests for your meaningful participation! 💚
I had a fantastic two days in Toronto attending the CIHR REDI (Research Excellence, Diversity, Independence) event, expertly led by my colleague Charu Kaushic and her amazing team. It was inspiring to engage with such an impressive group of REDI scholars, dedicated mentors, committed staff, and outstanding speakers and panelists.

This Black History Month, we’re proud to spotlight Dr. Akinrinade Ibukun, a CIHR-IA Research Excellence, Diversity, and Independence (REDI) Award recipient breaking barriers in science.
Dr. Akinrinade‘s research focuses on bi-directional stress contagion and buffering—how stress spreads and is soothed in social interactions.
By exploring how oxytocin regulates stress during the recall of stressful events, her work has the potential to transform our understanding of mental health and social support.
The REDI Award supports researchers from underrepresented groups, helping pave the way for more equitable and innovative science.
Let’s celebrate Dr. Akinrinade’s contributions to research and her inspiring journey!
