  • Meet Jon Bender, our very first facilities maintenance technician apprentice at Children’s Wisconsin! In 2022, Jon embarked on a multi-year program that combined hands-on training with coursework from Milwaukee Area Tech College (MATC). He clocked more than 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, gaining valuable skills in machine repair, electrical and HVAC maintenance, plumbing, and safety compliance. Thanks to his hard work, Jon recently completed his apprenticeship and was promoted to Facilities Maintenance Tech II! “This program brought me back to school. It has helped me gain a solid education and experience, exposing me to countless work orders and challenges,” said Jon. “ Completing this apprenticeship gave me a diploma, my facility mechanic journey worker card, and the chance to finish my associate’s degree. I feel prepared for any future opportunities!” Congratulations, Jon, on this well-earned achievement – we are proud to have you on our team!

    President & CEO, Children's Wisconsin

Last Friday, we conducted our first CEO Swap at Children's Wisconsin. I traded places with Ramon Martinez, MHA, Children's Wisconsin Milwaukee Metro Regional Director of Primary Care, to observe, listen and learn about his role and team. Walking in Ramon's shoes for a morning and witnessing the team's dedication and collaboration were truly rewarding. Giving a team member an opportunity to engage as the CEO enables us to have mutual respect for each other’s contributions to our mission. I visited the Children's Wisconsin Good Hope Pediatrics and River Glen Pediatrics primary care offices where I heard about the unique initiatives at each location to build a strong team and support kids and families. From the kindness confetti wall — a vibrant display of handwritten post-it notes with words of affirmation — to the collection of winter coats and gloves shared with families in need, these teams go above and beyond. Meanwhile, Ramon held regular meetings with senior leaders who were very committed to giving Ramon a true CEO experience, including outlining real scenarios and seeking his input. He said it was exciting to see how our values, guiding behaviors and mission really inform everything we do – throughout the organization, at all levels and regardless of the work being done. After the swap, Ramon and I had lunch together to share our experiences. Ramon said he could see his individual work and purpose connect to the bigger picture. I shared how impactful it was to meet his direct reports and discuss how organizational decisions affect frontline teams. We both agreed our One Team is the heart of this organization.

  • As a Pediatric Cardiologist at the Herma Heart Institute, David Saudek, MD, has seen more than his fair share of very sick kids. But when Trinity came to Children’s Wisconsin in 2021, she was one of the sickest he’d ever seen. “When Trinity came into the hospital with all of her organs shutting down, she had a very slim chance of surviving,” said Dr. Saudek. Read this blog post to learn more about how Dr. Saudek and his colleagues at Children’s Wisconsin brought Trinity back from the brink and are supporting her #AtEveryTurn. https://lnkd.in/ga_aE8Hj
