Since 2020, we’ve been committed to ending child abuse and supporting essential services for those affected. Today, on #ChildAbusePreventionAwarenessDay, we reflect on the fact that in 2023, there were over 24,000 confirmed cases of child abuse in Michigan. This day reminds us of our shared responsibility to strengthen families and communities to prevent abuse. That’s why the Children’s Foundation supports child advocacy centers and organizations that provide vital education, training, and resources to parents, kids, educators, and others to protect children from harm and offer critical services when abuse is suspected. Join us in raising awareness. By supporting these programs, we’re helping all children reach their full potential. 💙

At the Children’s Foundation, we believe all kids deserve access to quality mental health care. Yet only 4% of clinical psychologists specialize in child and adolescent care - and Michigan ranks among the worst states for provider shortages. In response, our Trustees established the Behavioral Health Scholarship to create a pipeline of professionals committed to serving Michigan’s youth. This endowed scholarship supports doctoral students in mental health fields who plan to practice in child and adolescent behavioral health right here in Michigan. Criteria and application are available here: https://lnkd.in/gdjXsfDn

Children's Foundation reposted this
In February 2025, the Detroit Pistons, alongside legend Rick Mahorn, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Pistons Black Excellence Scholarship Competition. This esteemed initiative has awarded over $100,000 in scholarships annually. To commemorate this milestone, we invited past winners to share how the competition has impacted their lives. Special thanks to our partners, Priority Health, United Dairy Industry of Michigan, Children's Foundation, Huntington National Bank, Stackwell , and Oakland University, for their continued support.

Approximately 17% of Detroit children live in households without a vehicle, and 22% of families report challenges with English proficiency. These barriers make accessing healthcare extra difficult. Here’s how we are breaking down these obstacles through a partnership with The Children's Center of Wayne County (Detroit). https://ow.ly/9Xu450UFkS4
