Cherokee Nation contributes more than $3.1 billion annually to the Oklahoma economy and the revenue from our businesses is a vital part of this impact. “CNB’s mission to broaden and strengthen Cherokee Nation’s economy as we invest, innovate, diversify and grow has always been at the core of everything we do, and it always will be,” said Chuck Garrett, CEO of Cherokee Nation Businesses. “As our annual dividend to the tribe, gaming compact fees, investments and more continue to grow every year, it is an absolute honor to see our company’s efforts creating even more of an impact throughout our communities and across Cherokee Nation.” We are proud to see how deeply rooted the #ThePowerOfPurpose is in Oklahoma’s economy and how our investments strengthen our communities, create opportunities and build a better future for all. Today is Cherokee Nation Remembrance Day. 186 years ago today, one of the final groups of Cherokees arrived in Indian Territory after being forcibly removed from our homelands and enduring a perilous journey across the Trail of Tears. The Hildebrand detachment arrived on March 24, 1839, in Indian Territory, near present-day Westville, while the Taylor detachment arrived on March 30, 1839. These were the final two detachments out of 17 groups that undertook the 1,000-mile relocation, concluding one of the darkest chapters in our history. Today, and every day, we remember and honor all of our ancestors who survived, as well as those who perished.

Cherokee Nation hosted a special contractor and employment fair last Wednesday at the Greenwood Cultural Center in Tulsa. The event connected attendees with opportunities to work with and gain employment with Cherokee Nation and its entities, including Cherokee Nation Businesses. Deputy Secretary of State Canaan Duncan and Freedmen Community Liaison Melissa Payne visited with those who stopped by to learn more about securing employment with the Cherokee Nation and its entities and to learn about the opportunities created by our tribe’s significant investments in housing, health care, and education capital projects. Wado to the over 100 people who visited us! Programs represented at last week’s fair can also be accessed at Cherokee.org.
