    I’m finishing up a VP of Marketing search for a roofing product company (an amazing company that developed a product that extends the life of roofs by up to 15 years!).  They’re scaling fast. One of the most critical aspects of this role is culture fit, someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, low-ego environment. One interview question I am using to test this: "Tell me about a time you tested a marketing idea you thought was GREAT, but it didn’t work as expected. How did you adjust? What did you do differently moving forward?" For me, it’s not just about what example candidates given, it’s how they respond: - Candidates who are used to fast-moving, high-growth environments and have the humility to embrace mistakes usually laugh and say something like, “Oh wow, I have so many to choose from!” As they respond, you can see that they know trial and error is part of the process and don’t take it personally. They own their missteps, learn, and move forward. - Candidates who would struggle in this environment tend to get stuck trying to come up with an example… “Hmm, an idea that didn’t work? An idea that didn’t work…” They eventually come up with something, but it’s clear they haven’t operated in an environment where iteration, learning, and quick pivots are the norm. Or, maybe they’re just not comfortable admitting when something didn’t work, which won't work in this company that values adaptability over ego. How candidates respond, not just what they say, really speaks volumes.

  • Our recent #CFO search reminded us a little bit of putting together pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Who doesn’t like putting puzzle pieces together?! Our client was looking for a finance executive with multiple pieces: ✅ Experience in an organization that used percentage of completion accounting (common in the construction industry) ✅ Experience with the management and KPIs around a route-based installation organization (common in field services) ✅ Experience in a #PrivateEquity backed organization with a high-growth culture   We're excited to watch the impact the new CFO will drive in helping the organization achieve the next stage of growth!

  • “You’re magicians.” It’s always nice hearing that feedback from one of our partners. The #CFO of a commercial roofing partner needed a specialist in a contingent capacity and was worried about the ability to find the right person. Although this leader had seen our work before in executive search, Chamberlain was eager to show our abilities in #staffing. Relishing niche searches and doing the hard hunting, we were quickly able to identify people who fit the mold and were in salary range through our proprietary Market Temperature Assessment. We quickly narrowed in on the excellent candidates who showed the best culture fit and worked with our partner to extend an offer. We did this in 23 days from search kick-off to start date. Our ability to work on #talentacquisition needs up and down human capital stack saved time and money for our client who didn’t need to bring in a new firm for staffing. That’s magic.

    When it comes to finding PE-backed C-suite talent, we know we need to turn over every stone to find the best. Take our last three CFO searches, each placement came from a different source: (1) PE-backed Security Services Platform – Researched our PE database for business services companies that went through secondary buyouts in the past five years, cross-referenced CFOs leading those businesses, and reached out to this candidate directly. (2) PE-backed Construction Platform – The successful candidate came from an applicant who raised their hand. (3) PE-backed Building Products Manufacturer – Ran a traditional LinkedIn search using relevant keywords to surface the candidate that was selected. I’ve learned that finding the next leader for a PE-backed company isn’t about relying on just one channel, it’s about pushing every channel: networks, databases, LinkedIn, applicants.... We use them all to deliver results. Every time.
