The Chamber of Mothers is a collective movement to advance maternal rights in America.
About us
The Chamber of Mothers is a coalition of motherhood community leaders and individuals united in advocating for mothers' rights, modeled after the Chamber of Commerce, the largest lobbying block in the United States. Our first goal is to win paid leave, and we have been working in concert with existing lobby and advocacy groups toward that end. Donate: www.give.cornerstone.cc/chamberofmothers

Black Maternal Health Week is NOW, and we want to shine a light on some of the Black women advancing maternal health right here in our Chamber of Mothers community. 📣 Meet Jshauntae Marshall Las Vegas Chapter Leader We are so fortunate to have powerhouse maternal health advocate Jshauntae (Jai) Marshall representing Chamber of Mothers in Las Vegas. She is a State Certified Full Spectrum Doula, serves as the Board Secretary of National Action Network Las Vegas Chapter (a social justice organization founded by Rev. Al Sharpton), and is currently in the Emerge Class of 2025 training to become a woman in politics with a focus on maternal health and education. She is a dedicated and staunch advocate for maternal health and community care across the city and state and most recently testified before the Nevada legislature. ⚡ What's up in Las Vegas this month? "Our chapter holds meetings once a month virtually on the last Saturday of each month at 5pm. We were part of a bill through the Senate, SB192, which is a healthcare omnibus. A part of it will mandate doula services in hospitals for hearing impaired birthing persons. It provides that doulas will be considered apart of the care team in hospitals; not an extension of the family. Lastly, it also requires doula services to be covered by all health insurance plans not just Medicaid. Thus creating career pathways for doulas. This bill is sponsored by Senator Dina Neal. We are also official partners in the Nevada Black Maternal Health Week" *Vegas chapter is currently seeking an additional 1-2 facilitators to support Jai!* DM for more info. Our deepest thanks and admiration to you Jai for all you do to advance the rights and well-being of Black moms, and all moms every day.

🚨 Vital programs supporting maternal and child health are being cut — and families across the U.S. will feel the impact. Thousands of public health jobs have been eliminated, including experts working on maternal mortality, postpartum care, STD prevention, and reproductive health. Programs that served new mothers and tracked critical health data are being dismantled. These changes affect the safety, health, and futures of our nation’s mothers and children — especially in underserved communities. Black Maternal Health Week begins April 11th, and we are shining a light on some of the amazing Black moms advancing maternal health right here in our Chamber of Mothers community: 📣 Meet Nancy Ukpe Gargula, Chicago Chapter Leader Nancy came to Chamber of Mothers in the first cohort of facilitators and re-launched our Chicago Chapter in early 2024. She values community and the relationships that can form when people connect for a common cause. As the facilitator for the Chicago Chapter, she works alongside her co-facilitators to bring mothers and allies together to fight for maternal rights. Through her tireless dedication, the Chicago Chapter has attended advocacy days, submitted witness slips, hosted postcard writing events, created local voter guides, met with elected officials, hosted panels and workshops and more. When she's not attending a meeting or organizing social events, you'll find her at one of the many amazing parks in Oak Park, playing with her two kids, dog, and husband. ⚡️ What's up in Chicago this month? "We have Dr. Andrea Haynes with PCC Wellness speaking to our members on April 12th. We are also volunteering with the Chicago's Southside Birthing Center's (a non profit independent Black midwife-led Birth Center) in Bloom Spring Gala to support their new location. Lastly, my local community, the village of Oak Park, recently approved a proclamation recognizing the week of April 11-17, 2025 as #BlackMaternalHealthWeek and has included Chamber of Mothers as a partner in engagement activity/resources. Our goal this year is to be engaged in the community and build partnerships along the way." Our deepest thanks and admiration to you Nancy for all you do to advance the rights and well-being of Black moms, and all moms every day.

We need you. Moms need you. 💖 📣 Use your voice to make massive impact for maternal mental health in just a few minutes TODAY. As federal budget cuts continue to make headlines, we partnered with Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance (MMHLA) for this Day of Action to make one message clear: maternal mental health funding MUST be maintained. This special, one-day campaign will enable anyone in the U.S. to contact their elected officials about the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline and the State Maternal Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders Program — two programs that have helped thousands of mothers get the support they need. Go to https://lnkd.in/g-dc8rtW to take ACTION RIGHT NOW! A few clicks later, an email will be sent to your elected officials urging them to continue funding these critical maternal mental health programs. Join us in supporting mothers across America. You don’t wanna f*ck with moms. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) and Brittany Pettersen (D-CO)—just made big waves by fighting for new parents to have 12 weeks of proxy voting after birth or adoption. Luna turned to the discharge petition process after she grew frustrated that House leadership and committees were stalling the proxy voting proposal. They gathered the 218 signatures needed to bypass leadership and force a vote on the House floor. But in response, the GOP-led Rules Committee tried to add in a new rule that would block not just this discharge petition—but any future ones related to proxy voting. However this effort to add this new rule in failed because all Democrats and 9 Republicans: Rep. Burchett, TN-2 (Knoxville/surrounding area) Rep. Kiley, CA-3 (East/South of Sacramento) Rep. LaLota, NY-1 (Long Island) Rep. Lawler, NY-17 (Hudson Valley) Rep. Luna, FL-13 (Clearwater) Rep. Mackenzie, PA-7 (Eastern PA) Rep. Miller, OH-7 (South of Cleveland) Rep. Steube, FL-17 (North of Fort Meyers) Rep. Van Drew, NJ-2 (Atlantic City area) VOTED NO on it. This means that the bill can continue to advance and hopefully the floor will vote on it soon. This is a great reminder that supporting mothers and families takes bipartisanship. Uniting together has power and we saw that today. —— Chamber of Mothers is uniting moms for a better America through our non-partisan, persistent support of federal paid leave, improved maternal health outcomes, and affordable childcare. The gender pay gap isn’t just about being a woman — it’s about being a mother. This is what’s known as the motherhood penalty — and it’s a driving force behind wage inequality in the U.S. Mothers are paid less, promoted less, and judged more harshly in the workplace. And for Black, Latina, and Indigenous mothers? The gap is even wider. Latina moms, for example, earn just 49 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic fathers. If we want true pay equity, we must recognize the systemic bias against mothers and caregivers — and push for real change. Policies like paid parental leave, affordable child care, and flexible work without penalty aren’t just nice to have — they’re essential. Let’s close the gap by starting with the truth: motherhood should never be a penalty. —— Chamber of Mothers is uniting moms for a better America through our non-partisan, persistent support of federal paid leave, improved maternal health outcomes, and affordable childcare.
