Founded in 1968 as a reliever airport for Stapleton International, Centennial Airport—then Arapahoe County Airport—has helped transform Arapahoe County into one of the most desirable and vibrant economies in the state while acting as a reliever airport for Denver International. Nurtured by professional planners, ecologists, pilots and citizen advisors, beginning in 1966, Centennial Airport has honored its commitment as a “living” airport, embracing design and compatible land use practices that consider the needs of the human environment while integrating itself into the fast-growing Denver metropolitan area. For over half a century, Centennial Airport has been a powerful and dependable economic engine home to over 120 businesses generating thousands of jobs, more than $1.8 billion in economic impact and a rich tax base for local school districts. Owned and operated by the Arapahoe County Public Airport Authority, Centennial Airport is 100-percent user supported, accepting no local tax dollars. It supports the world headquarters for large industries like Liberty Media, Echo Star, The Anschutz Corporation, Arrow Electronics, Western Union and more. Centennial Airport is home to three award-winning fixed base operators, approximately 850 based aircraft and one of the most decorated snow and ice removal teams in the general aviation industry.

Today, we are celebrating Bob Doubek for 20 years of leadership on the Centennial Airport Board of Commissioners — the longest serving board member in the airport’s history 🎉 As a lifelong pilot and AOPA representative, Bob has been a strong advocate for general aviation. While his seat on the Board will be filled after our April Board meeting, his impact on Centennial Airport will be felt for years to come. Thank you, Bob, for your incredible service! #flycentennial
Centennial Airport was the first airport to receive and utilize the FAA’s Runway Incursion Device (RID)—a groundbreaking system enhancing runway safety with real-time audio and visual alerts for air traffic controllers. Now, the FAA is expanding this technology to 74 towers nationwide. Read more about how RID is improving safety across the country! 👇
Training in action!🔥Last week, South Metro Fire Rescue conducted live fire training at the Mobile Aircraft Fire Trainer (MAFT) here at Centennial Airport, helping Larkspur and Bennett firefighters sharpen their Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) skills. This hands-on training ensures first responders are prepared for real-life aircraft emergencies.
This week, our Noise Specialist, Zach G., and Noise Analyst, Matthew Frenette, ACE, attended the University of California, Davis 2025 Aviation Noise & Emissions Symposium. This symposium is entirely dedicated to the critical mission of noise and emissions reduction from aircraft, representing a vital step forward in the aviation industry's commitment to a cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable future. Zach had the opportunity to speak on the Flight School Challenges and Opportunities panel where they discussed the impact of the ongoing pilot shortage on flight schools and airports, highlighting the challenges of increased demand for pilot training, and exploring ways to enhance collaboration and education among stakeholders.
