Here we are for another round of your top health questions answered by Cascade Medical Center providers! Todays question: How do you get pink eye? Pink eye, or conjunctivitis, can be infectious(bacterial, viral or fungal) or non-infectious(allergic, toxic, nonspecific). With pink eye you should NOT have significant pain or vision changes. Some cases of conjunctivitis can be self-limiting while others may need treatment. Bacterial conjunctivitis is more common in children while viral conjunctivitis is more common in adults. Bacterial and viral ϲοոϳuոϲtivitis’ are both highly contagious and spread by direct contact with secretions or contact with contaminated objects. Infected individuals should not share handkerchiefs, tissues, towels, cosmetics, linens, or eating utensils. If you believe you have pink eye, schedule an appoint with your local health care provider and they can help differentiate the cause and find the best treatment for you. - Dave Hill PA-C #Conjunctivitis #PinkEye #EyeHealth #HealthyEyes #CascadeMedicalCenter #2024HealthQuestions #HealthAnswers

Top Health Questions of 2024 – Answered by Cascade Medical Center Providers! At Cascade Medical Center, we know how important it is to have clear, reliable answers to your health questions. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing the top Googled questions from last year with answers from our very own providers! Is Bronchitis Contagious? Bronchitis can be contagious, depending on the cause. Bronchitis is the inflammation of the bronchial tubes, which carry air to and from the lungs that is a complication of, commonly, a viral infection. Acute bronchitis is often caused by viruses (like those causing colds or flu) and can spread through respiratory droplets. Chronic bronchitis, usually related to long-term lung irritation (e.g., smoking), is not contagious. Proper hygiene, like handwashing and covering coughs, helps prevent the spread of contagious bronchitis.! -Dr. Katie Camarata #HealthAndWellness #CascadeMedicalCenter #StayHealthy

Wellness Wednesday: Cold Weather Tips for Staying Healthy Brought to you by Cascade Medical As the temperatures drop, it’s important to take extra care of your body and mind. Cold weather can have a big impact on your health, but with a few simple tips, you can stay warm, active, and well all season long! Keep Your Immune System Strong: Cold weather can make you more susceptible to illness, so it’s crucial to support your immune system. Eat nutrient-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins, and stay hydrated even if you’re not feeling thirsty. Consider adding vitamin D and C to your routine to help fend off seasonal colds. Dress in Layers: Dressing in layers not only keeps you warm but also allows you to adjust to changing temperatures throughout the day. Be sure to cover your extremities—wear gloves, scarves, and hats to retain body heat. Don’t forget to wear moisture-wicking socks to keep feet dry and comfortable! Stay Active: Winter can make it tempting to stay indoors, but physical activity is essential for both mental and physical well-being. Whether it’s a brisk walk in the cold air, a home workout, or winter sports like skiing or ice skating, keeping your body moving helps boost mood and maintain overall health. Don’t Forget Self-Care: Cold, dry air can leave your skin feeling tight and irritated. Moisturize regularly and invest in a good lip balm to protect your skin from the elements. Consider a warm bath with essential oils to soothe your muscles and calm your mind after a long day in the cold. Prioritize Sleep: Winter’s shorter days and longer nights provide the perfect opportunity to rest and recharge. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep to help your body recover, fight off illness, and feel energized for the day ahead. Stay Connected: The winter months can sometimes feel isolating. Make an effort to connect with friends and family, even if it’s just a quick phone call or video chat. Staying socially connected is key to maintaining mental and emotional wellness. #WellnessWednesday #CascadeMedical #ColdWeatherCare #StayHealthy #WinterWellness #ImmuneSupport #SelfCare
