About us
Caring Health Center (CHC) is one of the premier health centers in Western Massachusetts, and for nearly 30 years it has served as an essential source of health care for residents of the greater Springfield area. CHC is the most culturally diverse and linguistically leading institution in the region. It is the leader in modeling employment equity based on being both women-led and having majority representation of people of color in our executive and overall leadership team. As an innovator, CHC has participated in federally funded research for over 21 years. In 1995, the time of its inception, CHC employed 20 and provided health care to 5,000 patients at a single site. Today, CHC employs over 250 and serves about 20,000 patients annually, providing affordable, quality, comprehensive medical care at three sites. In addition, the organization operates a state-of-the art pharmacy and WIC Nutrition Program, and serves as the largest Refugee Health Assessment provider in Massachusetts. CHC's on-site Wellness Center provides nutrition education, group physical exercise, and other services to support healthy and productive lives among patients. CHC’s team and Board of Directors ensure that patients receive comprehensive care that addresses their cultural, economic, and language needs, while its behavioral health specialists deliver services to address a wide range of emotional and other issues.

The Office of Minority Health within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services leads the annual observance of Minority Health Month, which runs through April 30. The theme for Minority Health Month 2025 is Advancing Commitments to Eliminate Health Disparities." This theme emphasizes the importance of addressing the health inequities that exist among minority populations. These disparities are driven by a combination of social, economic, and environmental factors, and they affect different racial and ethnic groups in diverse ways. For example, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the life expectancy for Black Americans is 72.8 years, while the life expectancy for non-Hispanic White Americans is 77.5 years. Black infants have a mortality rate of 10.9 per 1,000 live births, compared to 4.5 per 1,000 for White infants. #NMHM

It's all about the smile – just ask Dental Assistant Desiree Cruz. "A lot of people have dental anxiety," she said. "I like to make patients smile and feel confident with their smile." During Dental Assistants Recognition Week (March 2-8), we recognize those individuals who are the backbone of our dental practice. Our dental assistants provide incredible patient care with a calming presence, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and well-informed throughout their appointment.
