Most of the time, the problem isn’t that people don’t care. At CFC, we believe data is most powerful when it’s used to guide real decisions. From funding strategies to policy choices, the right data helps communities focus their efforts and make lasting impact. Curious what that could mean for your own work? Have questions about what’s happening in your community? We’re all ears. 👇 #publichealth #communityimpact #northcarolina #newhanover #wilmingtonnc

About us
Cape Fear Collective (CFC) drives towards equitable systemic change in Southeastern North Carolina by collaborating with community partners to leverage local assets, illuminate actionable insights, and catalyze innovative programming. We accomplish this by: • Collaborating with our community partners and leveraging innovative data science and analytics to generate clear, actionable, hyper-local insights aimed at exposing and programming against inequities. • Rallying impact investors around these causes by using this same data to visualize specific opportunities for systemic change, and directing these financial resources where they can generate the greatest social return on investment. • Committing to nurture and scale multi-organizational initiatives, in collaboration with leaders from across our community, to drive each project’s success in combatting poverty, racism, poor health and education outcomes, and social-economic disparities affecting Southeastern North Carolina. • Creating a regional impact model that can be shared across North Carolina to foster opportunities for potential shared learning and collaboration.

“Everyone deserves a place to call home.” We’re proud to see our CEO, Cara Stretch, featured as a woman that Andrea Johnston wants you to know! We’re lucky to have her leading CFC with vision, heart, and a deep commitment to equity.
🤩 Welcome to the next 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗜 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄. Today we are featuring two inspiring women in the nonprofit world in NC... Please meet Cara Stretch, MSN, the CEO at Cape Fear Collective, a data-driven nonprofit that focuses on programs aimed at driving equitable systemic change in Southeastern NC, and Shamonique Brantley, the Founder & CEO at Level Up Strategies, an accounting firm empowering nonprofits through their specialized grant writing division. 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗰𝗵 Cara is an exceptional leader and community builder, with many years of experience and impact in the nonprofit sector. She truly leads with grace and resilience. She has been doing the hard work of making an excellent organization exceptional, refocusing CFC on community-based data and insights while also aligning the entire organization around a clear vision and mission for the future. This strategic approach ensures the team’s talents can be maximized and CFC can deliver the greatest regional impact. Prior to CFC, Cara led Feast Down East and worked with St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center and the Maryland Department of Labor managing impactful programs, influencing policy, and housing and foreclosure prevention at the state and national levels—because, as she says, everyone deserves a place to call home. She turns vision into action, leading strategic initiatives that drive tangible change. From affordable housing and workforce development to health equity programs, she’s all about building partnerships and creating data-driven solutions that actually work. As a working mom, Cara is also dedicated to family and her local community, serving on boards, task forces, and leadership groups! 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘆 I have the distinct pleasure of working with Sharm on the Board of CFC. She is a visionary, business strategist and life coach dedicated to helping individuals and organizations reach their full potential. Sharm brings passion and energy to everything she does. She is an expert on nonprofit financial management and an asset to our community! Sharm has spent years guiding businesses, specifically nonprofits, toward operational excellence, helping them run smoother, and grow stronger. With a background in finance and executive leadership, she brings strategic insights to her clients and board roles. But she’s not only about business—she’s involved in a number of community-based organizations in addition to CFC, including Genesis Block Foundation, a hub for entrepreneurship in Southeastern NC. She is also deeply focused on her family and faith. Whether she’s coaching, strategizing, or making things happen, Sharm’s mission is simple: helping others grow, thrive, and be their best! 👇 Big thanks to Cara and Sharm for the work they do to make our community stronger and better. Thank YOU for celebrating these women with us! Please connect with them & learn more. Stay tuned for the next #WIWYTK post in two weeks. #WomenSupportingWomen

Data can be powerful, but only if people know how to actually use and interpret it. At Cape Fear Collective, we help turn complex data into clear insights that drive impact. The problem isn’t a lack of data. It’s knowing how to make sense of it, tell a story with it, and use it to make informed decisions. That’s what we do. ➡️ We help nonprofits secure funding by showing their measurable impact. ➡️ We equip decision-makers with accessible data to guide smart choices. ➡️ We make data easy to understand so it serves the people who need it most. We believe data should be human-centered, practical, and action-driven. And we’re here to make sure it is. Let’s use data for good, together. #publichealth #communityimpact #northcarolina #newhanover #wilmingtonnc

Data alone isn’t enough. It’s what you do with it that matters. At Cape Fear Collective, we work with nonprofits, policymakers, and community leaders to turn raw numbers into real-world solutions. ✅ We help organizations prove their impact and secure funding. ✅ We make complex data clear and accessible so communities can act on it. ✅ We provide tools that drive better decision-making across key issues. The power of data for good is in how it’s used. When information is accessible, change is possible. Curious how data can shape the future of our communities? Let’s talk. #publichealth #communityimpact #northcarolina #newhanover #wilmingtonnc

🎉 Last week, in our first newsletter of '25, we announced BIG news! 🎉 We’ve recently launched a major update to our Healthy Communities NC (HCNC) Dashboard — your go-to resource for tracking public health goals across North Carolina. With a fresh new look, expanded data (including NC Congressional Districts!), and improved usability, HCNC is now more powerful than ever. HCNC exists thanks to Novant Health, Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, and Community Care of North Carolina. With funding from North Carolina Institute of Medicine and a partnership with Datawheel, we were able to update the dashboard to make it easier for communities, policymakers, and organizations to access the data they need to drive meaningful change. 🗞️ Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eG8Hfyfp 🔍 Explore the dashboard: https://lnkd.in/gTm5j334 #DataForGood #HealthyNC2030 #CommunityImpact

📣 Important Resource for Data Users: CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) 📣 The CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index (SVI)—a prominent tool for understanding community resilience and vulnerability—is no longer available directly through the CDC website. Providing and creating actionable, accessible data is at the heart of everything we do—it helps our community leaders and local organizations make informed policy decisions and community investments that make meaningful change. Therefore, we’re proud to offer the most recent SVI data through our Community Data Platform (CDP), ensuring that researchers, policymakers, and community leaders continue to have access to this vital resource. If there are other data sets that you need to access but are also no longer available, we encourage you to see if they are archived on our CDP & Healthy Communities NC (HCNC) dashboard—both linked below. We also welcome questions about locating data by emailing data@capeafearcollective.org. 🔗 SVI: https://lnkd.in/er8kzTQX 🔗 CDP: https://lnkd.in/eUvC59Rq 🔗 HCNC: https://lnkd.in/gTm5j334 #DataForGood #CommunityImpact #SocialVulnerabilityIndex #CapeFearCollective #DataAccess
