We're a passionate, mission-driven health center working towards health justice for LGBTQ+ communities.
About us
Callen-Lorde is the global leader in LGBTQ+ healthcare. Since the days of Stonewall, we have been transforming lives in LGBTQ+ communities through excellent comprehensive care, provided free of judgment and regardless of ability to pay. In addition, we are continuously pioneering research, advocacy and education to drive positive change around the world, because we believe healthcare is a human right. Callen-Lorde’s grassroots heritage dates back over 50 years to the St. Marks Clinic and the Gay Men’s Health Project – two volunteer-based clinics that provided safe and confidential sexual health and primary care regardless of ability to pay. These clinics merged in 1983 to form Community Health Project, a mostly volunteer-staffed, episodic care program housing the nation’s first community-based HIV clinic.

Every year on Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), we take a moment to celebrate transgender resilience, recognize the contributions of transgender individuals, and reflect on the ongoing work to ensure that all people can live openly and authentically. In a world where transgender lives are constantly under attack, visibility is a form of resistance. Visibility is not only about representation—it is about uplifting the voices of those who have led the fight for transgender rights. These stories serve as a powerful reminder of the progress made, the challenges ahead, and the resilience of transgender communities. #TransgenderDayOfVisibility #TDOV #Queer #QueerHealth #LGBTQ #LGBTQHealth #QueerHealthcare #LGBTQHealthcare #TransHealth #TransHealthcare #CallenLorde

This #WomensHistoryMonth we are celebrating co-founder of Callen-Lorde Community Health Center's "Cecilia's Occupational Inclusion Network" (COIN) clinic, Cecilia Gentili (she/her). Cecilia was an activist, advocate and beloved member of the Callen-Lorde community. She did direct service through The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center in New York and the APICHA Community Health Center in New York. She also was an actress who appeared in the hit television show “Pose.” Cecilia's namesake COIN Clinic remains open today to anybody who identifies as a sex worker. COIN patients have access to primary care, sexual health, behavioral health, dental, pharmacy, and any other services received at Callen-Lorde. Additionally, all COIN patients can receive specialized case management and access to a support group for sex workers. Cecilia's advocacy and work supporting those living with HIV/AIDS, sex workers and the LGBTQ+ community earned her numerous accolades, including a Community Health Award. We celebrate her memory and dedication, today and every day.

Medicaid and the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program save lives. Cuts to these vital services will harm people living with HIV and hinder prevention efforts, which are among the many reasons Callen-Lorde is attending this year's #AIDSWatch conference @aidsunited AIDSWatch is the nation’s largest and longest-running HIV advocacy convening, bringing together activists, policymakers and community leaders to drive real change. This year’s theme, “Preserving our Health and PrEParing for the Future!,” underscores the critical work we must do to ensure equitable access to HIV care and prevention. Join Callen-Lorde and other HIV advocates and allies in Washington, D.C., March 31 - April 2, 2025.
