  • Is your day filled with drainers rather than energizers? Drainers are things which deplete your energy. Things which have to be done, but which you don’t particularly enjoy doing. Work deadlines, pointless meetings, meaningless social engagements, and so on. Author Stephen King used the word ‘haftas’ to describe these. Energizers are things which give you energy. Things that you love doing, which connect you to your soul. Passions like music or writing, hobbies like gardening or trekking, or doing deep work on a dream project. Stephen King called these ‘wantas’. Most of us inadvertently fill our day with drainers, or haftas, rather than energizers, or wantas. But our batteries need to be recharged in order to function. And that’s why wantas are important. They make life worthwhile. So, as you go about your day, observe how much of it is filled with haftas, and how much with wantas, and see if you want to change the proportion.    #calibridge #unlockyourpotential #personalgrowth #professionalgrowth #financialgrowth #drainers #haftas #energizers #wantas

  • We spend large parts of our day in Consumption Mode. We binge watch on Netflix and other OTT platforms. We call ourselves ‘foodies’ and eat at restaurants, bars and cafes. We listen to podcasts recorded by others. We put on our playlist and hear songs sung by others. And often at work, we do work for an agenda which has been set by others.   But a life of consumption is a life which is only half-lived. There is this whole reservoir of potential that exists within each one of us, that is untapped. This reservoir is our Creative Potential. We could write. Or take up photography. Or sing a song. Or cook. Or take up gardening. Or teach. Or set up a company, or start a social initiative. Yet, all this potential lies dormant in us because we are so busy consuming. So, ask yourself today if you can make a beginning with a creative pursuit of your own, however small it might be.    #calibridge #unlockyourpotential #personalgrowth #professionalgrowth #financialgrowth #consumermode #creatormode

  • We often go through life playing someone else’s game. It’s because we have not discovered our gifts or our purpose. There is a famous quote which goes, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” If we are not aware of our gifts and our purpose, we are no different from a fish trying to climb a tree. To find purpose, you don’t need to go looking for it with hammer and tongs. Instead, live your life with energy, curiosity and a sense of wonder. Explore, do different things, meet different people, but do it mindfully. Intersperse activity with periods of quietly looking inward. So that you can be aware of what inspires you, gives you meaning, gives you joy. Over time, you will be able to tune into your inner compass, and you will find purpose. So, ask yourself - how can I bring this sense of curiosity, energy and wonder into my life?   #calibridge #unlockyourpotential #personalgrowth #professionalgrowth #financialgrowth #findpurpose

  • The story goes that Microsoft founder Bill Gates and legendary investor Warren Buffett were once at a dinner. The host asked everyone at the table to write down the single most important factor that led to their success. Both Gates and Buffett had the same answer. Focus. So, what does focus really mean? It means the ability to devote your full attention at hand, to not give up despite challenges or setbacks, to not get distracted, and to keep at it and take it to its logical conclusion. It means being aware of difficulties, but plodding on despite them. These difficulties could be office politics, or unfair competitors, or unreasonable customers, or fund constraints . If you do this, eventually, the effort will pay off, like it did for Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. So, ask yourself today, what will it take to bring this focus into your life?   #calibridge #unlockyourpotential #personalgrowth #professionalgrowth #financialgrowth #focus

  • Do you feel overwhelmed by day-to-day pressures? Do you struggle to find the time to rest and recoup? Even when you do have free time, does your brain whizz with thoughts, unable to rest? A lot of this might be because your survival mode has been switched on. Survival mode is when a person perceives a danger to his or her life. This is a state of heightened alertness and anxiety. This fight-or-flight response was originally meant to alert humans to danger. But in a modern-day office or home setting, being constantly in survival mode can be lethal. It leads to release of the stress hormone cortisol, it makes you feel exhausted, and it takes a toll on your physical and emotional wellbeing. So, next time you find yourself feeling anxious or overwhelmed, take a step back. And ask yourself whether your survival mode really needs to be on.    #calibridge #unlockyourpotential #personalgrowth #professionalgrowth #financialgrowth #overwhelmed

  • We all have this belief about the magic bullet, this lottery, which will solve all our problems. If you are a founder, you might feel that the next funding round will mysteriously solve everything. If you are starting your career, you might feel that there is this dream job which would be like a lottery. If you are an investor, you might feel that finding this one multi-bagger stock will change your life. It’s great to have goals. But beware of clinging desperately to this hope of a lottery, in order to escape taking ownership for your present. Instead, build your life brick by brick, and eventually it will set you up for success in whatever realm you choose - personal, professional or financial. So, what can you do today to build the foundation for your success?   #calibridge #unlockyourpotential #personalgrowth #professionalgrowth #financialgrowth #losethelottery #winatlife #lifelessons

  • Are you a founder daunted by the task of building a business from scratch? Are you an aspiring writer struggling to create an epic? Are you looking to build a career, but don’t know where to start? The answer to all these is the same. Break the complex or daunting task into small steps, make a beginning, and chip away. If you are a founder, get the basics correct first. Your customer, the problem you are solving, your product, your team. And then build from there. If you are a writer, start with your characters, and the basic premise of your story. If you are looking to start a career, make a good start in your first job. Your efforts will compound over time. But as they say, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. So next time you feel overwhelmed with something, divide it into small steps, and make a beginning.   #calibridge #unlockyourpotential #personalgrowth #professionalgrowth #financialgrowth #accomplish #dauntingtask

  • One of the superpowers that great investors have is the ability to say – “I don’t know” Everybody nowadays has an opinion on everything – from wars to election results to the monsoon to 5 stocks to buy every day. But the truth is that wealth is created only by deep understanding of what you are buying, and of the risks involved. This is why the legendary investor Warren Buffett suggests focusing on your ‘CIRCLE OF COMPETENCE’. This is the area where you have an edge over others, due to your experience, or networks, or your temperament. (3 different subpoints to highlight) Buy what you understand. Don’t buy something just because your neighbour bought it. So, ask yourself today - what is your circle of competence?    #calibridge #unlockyourpotential #personalgrowth #professionalgrowth #financialgrowth #circleofcompetence

  • Do stock price movements mess with your mind? If so, you need to know about the term Mr. Market. This term was coined by Benjamin Graham, who was Warren Buffett’s guru. Imagine that you own a business. Imagine that a person offers to buy this business from you. He comes every day and offers a different price every day. This person is moody and emotionally volatile. If he offers you a crazily high price, you might sell your business. If he offers you a crazily low price, you might buy the business back. But you would not let him influence what you feel the business is actually worth. This crazy person is Mr. Market, and he represents the stock market. When we invest in a stock, we actually buy a stake in a business. But we shouldn’t let Mr. Market’s price mess with our mind. So, ask yourself - do stock prices mess with your mind? If so, what can you do about this?    #calibridge #unlockyourpotential #personalgrowth #professionalgrowth #financialgrowth #mrmarket
