Do you know what disengagement is doing to your business? It’s dragging down morale → which drags down performance → which negatively impacts customer interactions and ambassadorship → which lowers revenue → which puts stress on other employees → and adds stress to your already stressed managers. Gallup 2024 - tells us that roughly 17% of employees are ACTIVELY DISENGAGED. (almost 2 out of 10 employees). The hard COST of disengagement per employee is 18% (roughly $11k vs. avg salary per BLS). Multiply that x2 (above) = at least $22k for every 10 employees. Let’s add another cost - the cost of attrition. It costs you 50-150% of an employee’s salary to replace them. So on the conservative side, let’s say $30k PER lost employee. So you’re spending $11k on a Disengaged employee (x 17% of your population) PLUS $30k for EACH lost employee (multiple by your turnover percentage). Questions that come to mind: Are you even #accounting for this loss on your P&L statement? What are you doing to solve that excessive spend? Are you on the side of (likely) spending MORE on this than other orgs? Do I have your attention? How your managers and leaders carry and communicate your #CompanyCulture, build strategy into #EmployeeEngagement, and invest in #leadershipdevelopment has an impact on who WANTS to be there AND be engaged and productive for you. How would you feel if your boss asked you to take on a project, and gave you the idea that your team would make the decision at the end of the project, THEN decided to go with their own decision? Talk about a #hiddenagenda. Let’s see if I can identify the emotions - frustrated, angry, curious, devalued, unappreciated, disrespected…. Leaders don’t send their teams on wild #goose chases. That’s not leadership. Not only is it frustrating, it’s demotivating. Why would any one of those team members step up for a special project again? They’d see it as a waste of their time (and it probably is). Time = money, but there’s also trust, morale, and respect which would disappear in a flash if this were to happen. While I HOPE this doesn’t happen to you, these things happen, and it’s not ok. I help organizations who struggle with clarity, delegation, and other #leadership challenges. Do you have a hard time letting go? I mean those times when you think to yourself, it’d be faster if I did it myself? OR you find yourself explaining to someone how to do something and you go back in and do some ‘fixing’ and do it yourself anyway? It’s the little micromanager in you. Sometimes, you have to let go of the controls. I know it can be scary. There’s value in giving instructions. There’s also value in walking someone through it in the way THEY need to process it. If you find that you’re getting the glossed-over look when explaining things, ever think it might be YOU, and not THEM? Think about it. Taking time to give context, explain, and sometimes reposition how you explain things takes patience.
