Updates

  • Last Thursday, BH staff — including attorney and Board Member Mazaher Kaila and Autumn Burgin, Esq. — had the pleasure of attending Refugee and Immigrant Self- Empowerment (RISE)'s Annual Night of Nations dinner, a celebration of culture, community, and the impactful work being done to empower New Americans. Syracuse, NY, is one of the nation’s top resettlement cities. As of 2020, it has a foreign-born population of 13%, according to census data. RISE promotes self-sufficiency among refugee and immigrant communities in Erie and Onondaga Counties. It advocates for employment, education, social support, and economic independence. Thank you to the RISE team and all of the community partners, supporters, and honorees who made the evening so meaningful.
