Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is a Maharatna central public sector undertaking (PSU), under the ownership of Ministry of Steel, Government of India. SAIL manufactures and sells a broad range of steel products through its five integrated plants - at Bhilai, Rourkela, Durgapur, Bokaro and Burnpur (Asansol), and three special steel plants - at Salem, Durgapur and Bhadravathi. These are located principally in the eastern and central regions of India and situated close to domestic sources of raw materials. Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) is located in the Bokaro district of Jharkhand. It is the fourth integrated public sector steel plant in India built with Soviet help. It was incorporated as a limited company in 1964, and was was later merged with the state-owned Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).
