With days into this new year, I am reflecting on the powerful ways we deepened investment, built on successful programs, and expanded our network at Bloomberg Philanthropies‘ Greenwood Initiative in 2024! We celebrated many milestones alongside our awesome partners. Here are just a few proud moments (and snapshots) that we are hoping to use as momentum in 2025: - Celebrating the Black Wealth Data Center's 2nd anniversary! This platform has expanded to include more than 40 datasets, 415 sub-datasets, and 61 data visualizations — providing actionable data that supports the racial wealth equity work of leaders and decision-makers. - Making a historic $600 million gift to the endowments of the nation’s four historically Black medical schools, investing in both the present and future at these institutions. - Welcoming a third cohort of Vivien Thomas Scholars at The Johns Hopkins University, addressing historic underrepresentation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. We now have more than 50 scholars in this program! - Participating in important conversations at convenings like the African American Mayors Association Annual Conference, All In Together Black Women Lead conference, Black Economic Alliance Solutions Summit, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation‘s 53rd Annual Legislative Conference and others that highlighted the ongoing work to drive ways to further economic mobility in our communities. Looking forward to the year ahead!

🗣️ In conversation with Diana Elliott: Understanding demographic data is key to driving policies that promote economic equity. In this blog post, Diana Elliott, a demographer and data expert at the Population Reference Bureau, discusses the updated Office Management and Budget (OMB) standards for collecting, maintaining, and presenting race/ethnicity data across federal agencies. She shares the pivotal implications of these updated standards, inspired by years of dedicated research aimed at improving data accuracy in an environment where racial and ethnic identities are constantly evolving. Check out the full interview to learn more about the vital role representative data plays in developing solutions to our most deep-rooted societal inequalities. https://lnkd.in/ea-pGcGN

Congratulations to the Black Wealth Data Center for two successful years! Bloomberg Philanthropies launched this platform to respond to a challenge: to support the racial equity work of leaders and decision-makers with actionable data. Since then, the BWDC team has grown and has become an invaluable source to the field – fueling both national and local efforts advancing racial wealth equity through expanded data and data visualization tools. I am so proud of our team, who contribute their hard work, innovative thinking and passion. I look forward to what we will accomplish in the next two - and beyond.
