🌍 On Earth Day, we want to highlight the underestimated role of soil organisms in protecting our planet. 🌱 🧬As this year’s theme is ‘Our Power, Our Planet’, it reminds us that true environmental action starts beneath our feet. Soil biodiversity supports clean energy transitions by regulating carbon storage and maintaining healthy ecosystems. 🇪🇺 At BIOservicES, we aim to understand how soil organisms contribute to key ecosystem functions and services across different environmental and land-use contexts. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding the planet's soil health as it is synonymous with safeguarding our well-being! 💚 #BIOservicES #EcosystemServices #SoilHealth #HorizonEurope #EarthDay

About us
Soil organisms play a crucial role in many of the processes that occur in soil, which are directly linked to the provision of ecosystem services. While it's clear that soil organisms are essential for providing multiple ecosystem services, we still need to explore the relationships between specific soil organisms and the provision of essential ecosystem services across various types of land use. In addition, there is a lack of information on how nutrient cycling, pollution prevention, water infiltration/retention, productivity, soil structure, and soil biodiversity are related to different land uses. Using a statistical approach with cutting-edge elements from AI, such as statistical learning and machine learning algorithms, BIOservicES will establish the relationship between soil organisms, and their multiple uses. The primary goal of BIOservicES is to comprehend the connection between various soil organisms such as viruses, bacteria, archaea, fungi, protists, nematodes, microarthropods, earthworms, isopods, millipedes, insects, and spiders, and how they contribute to the delivery of multiple soil ecosystem functions and services at different scales, taking into account different land uses and climate change. The project seeks to identify the pressures and drivers affecting soil organisms and their services, perform an economic valuation of their contribution to the ecosystem, and develop decision-support tools and models that can help design climate-resilient management practices and monitoring, conservation, and restoration programs. The 60-month project, funded by the European Union through the Horizon Europe program, will involve 22 partners from 11 countries with very different profiles (universities, small and medium-sized enterprises, consultancies, farmers, and NGOs, among others).

🟫 Soil erosion refers to the geological process where natural forces such as rainfall, water runoff, and temperature fluctuations wear away the land surface. 🌍In Europe, soil degradation costs over €50 billion annually, with millions of contaminated sites impacting both agriculture and natural ecosystems. 🌱 Addressing soil erosion is not just an agricultural concern; it is vital for preserving ecosystem services that enhance our quality of life. With proactive and sustained efforts, we can combat soil erosion, protect our natural resources, and ensure a sustainable future for both agriculture and the environment! 💚 #BIOservicES #SoilHealth #EcosystemServices #SoilErosion #SustainableAgriculture #HorizonEurope #EuropeanProject

🌍 As we dive deeper into exploring soil biodiversity and ecosystem functions, we must highlight the significance of continental geographical regions in our project. 🔎 Each region possesses unique soil types and ecological characteristics that directly influence how we manage land and harness its resources. Through our research, we aim to connect the dots between soil biodiversity and its ecosystem services, tailoring our approach to the varying contexts of continental regions across Europe. 🟤 By understanding local soil dynamics and their relationship to land use practices, we can identify sustainable innovations that enhance soil health and ecosystem resilience. 🟤 🌱 Join us on this journey towards a sustainable future! 🌱 #BIOservicES #SoilBiodiversity #EcosystemServices #ContinentalRegions #SustainableLandManagement #SoilHealth

🦠 A soil microbiome refers to the diverse community of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and other microbes, that live in the soil and play a crucial role in maintaining soil health and fertility. The soil microbiome composition and diversity can directly impact the health of the surrounding ecosystem, including the plants, animals, and humans that depend on it. 🙌 Here are 6 key benefits of soil microbiome: ✅ Improving gut health ✅ Boost the immune system ✅ Reduce inflammation ✅ Enhance mental health ✅ Increase nutrient uptake ✅ Ensure sustainable agriculture Let's continue to support and prioritize the health of the soil microbiome for a healthier planet and body! 💚 #SoilMicrobiome #HealthyLiving #SustainableAgriculture

📢 With a focus on innovation and technology, the FIGAN fair is dedicated to helping professional farmers discover solutions for their agricultural needs and stands as a key reference fair in the agro-livestock sector across the Mediterranean area. 🚜🌾 Last week, we participated in its 17th edition, which was held at Feria de Zaragoza alongside our partners Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena, CSIC and AgroCultívate. 🌱 On Friday, our project coordinator, Raúl Zornoza, represented the #BIOservicES project, delivering a compelling presentation during the 'Soil Health, Organic Amendments, and Regulation' seminar, with the attendance of 25 farmers and agronomists. 🙌 Congrats to everyone who made this event possible, from organizers to participants, moderators, and speakers. Thanks to all of you, the future of agriculture looks promising! #FIGAN2025 #AgroLivestock #Innovation #Sustainability #BIOservicES #SoilHealth
