Embedding learning spaces within a framework of ecological integration American School of Quito – A Regenerative Vision for Education The The Miller Hull Partnership, LLP, in collaboration with Leppanen Anker Arquitectura, Knot Studio, PAE and Biohabitats, has unveiled a visionary concept for the American School of Quito’s new campus in Puembo, a growing neighborhood on the outskirts of the Ecuadorian capital. The design proposes a regenerative campus that draws from Ecuador’s diverse natural ecosystems, aligning the school’s physical environment with its long-established pedagogical values. By embedding learning spaces within a framework of ecological integration, the project seeks to foster stronger connections between education, environment, and community. Targeting full Living Building Challenge certification, the campus aspires to be one of the most sustainable educational institutions in Latin America, setting a benchmark for low-impact development and climate-responsive design. Catch us at the Governors Island annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 19! We’ll be in Colonels Row from 10am to 3pm with Just EcoCities to demonstrate our Tidal Planter pilot, a "wetland-in-a-box" that uses the natural cleaning power of a salt marsh to remove pollutants from New York Harbor and has the potential to bring this ecosystem to walkways and promenades throughout the city. Beautiful morning out on the SF Bay shoreline with the City of Hayward Public Works team. MIG is excited to work with Sherwood Design Engineers, Biohabitats, LimnoTech, and Ninyo & Moore Geotechnical and Environmental Sciences Consultants to reimagine Hayward’s wastewater treatment system using nature-based solutions. With funding and partnership from the San Francisco Estuary Partnership, this project will explore how nature-based solutions can help: 🌿 Meet nutrient reduction goals and regulatory requirements 🌿 Build infrastructure resilient to sea level rise and climate impacts 🌿 Support habitat and biodiversity 🌿 Create public access and recreation opportunities 🌿 Expand environmental education and stewardship 🌿 Strengthen relationships with the community and agency partners Grateful for this opportunity to explore the intersection of nature-based solutions, infrastructure, public health, and climate resilience. Many times stories are more informative and impactful then metrics. Combined, they can be very powerful. Under our first full year of being owned by Biohabitats Purpose Trust, Biohabitats is flourishing, thanks to the many courageous and dedicated clients that find value in our work.
