Our programs empower people with IDD to form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure jobs, improve communication and advocacy skills, and live independently, while also offering support for their families. The IDD community that Best Buddies serves individuals with IDD and their families. The IDD community includes, but is not limited to, people with Down syndrome, autism, Fragile X, Williams syndrome, and other undiagnosed disabilities.

Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The Best Buddies in North Carolina state office was founded in 2017. Since then we have grown to include 40 school programs including Elementary, Middle School, High School and College. In 2020, North Carolina added the Citizens program and has matched our first pairs!

Tammy got us connected with Christopher Bylone van Sandwyk, the Global Head of Belonging-- which has led to all kinds of exciting conversations about friendship, jobs, and transitions. It's so magical to be in a room with leaders who want to make sure that EVERYONE can be successful in whatever avenue they dream of.
