This past Friday was a busy evening here....starting with a wonderful presentation in our Board Rooms with a "Fiesta" theme, we welcomed Certified Elder Care Attorney Stephanie Bivens with Bivens & Associates to talk about the documents every senior should consider having in their tool shed. We followed this with our monthly musical event in the Life Center. Sticking with the Fiesta theme we called this month's performance "Music & Margarita's" and welcomed Mariachi Hermanas del Corazon to the Campus. Two wonderful events to welcome the weekend!

International Women's Day (IWD) is a holiday celebrated annually as a focal point in the women's rights movement. International Women's Day gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.[3][4] Spurred by the universal female suffrage movement, International Women's Day originated from labor movements in Europe and North America during the early 20th century, with the modern holiday, March 8, being declared by Vladimir Lenin.[5][6][7] Female soldiers from Peru, Egypt, India and other countries celebrate International Women's Day. Female soldiers from Peru, Egypt, India and other countries celebrate International Women's Day. The earliest version reported was a "Woman's Day" organized by the Socialist Party of America in New York City on February 28, 1909. This inspired German delegates at the 1910 International Socialist Women's Conference in Copenhagen to propose "a special Women's Day" be organized annually, albeit with no set date;[8] the following year saw the first demonstrations and commemorations of International Women's Day across Europe. Vladimir Lenin declared March 8 as International Women's Day in 1922 to honour the women's role in 1917 Russian Revolution;[9] it was subsequently celebrated on that date by the socialist movement and communist countries. The holiday became a mainstream global holiday following its promotion by the United Nations in 1977.[10] International Women's Day is a public holiday in several countries. The UN observes the holiday in connection with a particular issue, campaign, or theme in women's rights.[6] (post copied from Wikipedia)

Shrove Tuesday is the day before 40 days of Lent. Lent is meant to be a time of sacrifice, in honour of Jesus who spent 40 days fasting in the wilderness. Shrove is the past tense of the verb shrive which means to go to a priest for confession or penance. It takes place on a different Tuesday each year but it is always 47 days before Easter Sunday. Lent begins from Ash Wednesday, the day after Shrove Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday is also the last day of Shrovetide which actually starts with Shrove Saturday.

Muslims across the world will soon begin observing Ramadan, embarking on a month of fasting and religious study. Followers of the faith believe that it is the month that the Quran, the faith's holy book, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammed. The holy period is marked by community gatherings, special prayers and abstinence from ill behavior We wish to recognize and honor those who celebrate this spiritual path
