Protect more lives in more places.

About us

Our story began in September of 1993 when TASER International was founded by CEO Rick Smith with his brother Tom Smith. They consulted with Jack Cover, former NASA scientist and inventor of the original TASER® conducted energy weapons of the 1970s. Rick Smith was inspired to found the company after losing two high school football teammates who were shot and killed in a road rage incident. This experience led him to seek new technologies that would enable people to protect themselves without deploying lethal force in hopes of creating a bullet-less world. Today, Axon represents the entire network of devices, applications and people that is revolutionizing public safety around the world. Our mission is to protect life. We’re building the world’s largest and most trusted suite of public safety solutions. If you are seeking a career with purpose, we invite you to join us. Learn more at: axon.com/careers This is Our Moonshot Gun-related deaths between police and the public have risen steadily for at least the past six years. In 2021 in the U.S., 1,118 people — 1,054 civilians and 64 officers — lost their lives in gun-related incidents between police and the public, according to leading data sources. In response, Axon is rallying partners around a “moonshot” goal to cut gun-related deaths between police and the public by 50% by 2033.

When every second counts, one click can make all the difference. Soon, Axon’s officer-initiated drone request feature will seamlessly integrate with Axon body-worn cameras and Skydio’s DFR Command platform, allowing officers to request support directly from their body-worn camera, initiating a drone deployment to their real-time location with pinpoint accuracy. Together, Axon and Skydio can help public safety agencies protect more lives in more places. See it in action at #AxonWeek25 with Skydio X10! #Axon #ProtectLife

If there was ever any doubt about the effectiveness of Drone as First Responder programs… you need to see what’s been happening in San Francisco. Crime in SF - once the subject of hundreds of articles - has been dropping precipitously. 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝟮𝟴% 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝟯𝟬% 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝘁𝗵𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗿. This is due in part to San Francisco Police Department (SFPD)’s hugely successful Real-Time Investigation Center and its use of drones. We’re honored to help SFPD protect residents and visitors with Skydio DFR. Launching from Docks, Skydio X10s are helping stop crimes such as burglaries, drug dealing, and auto thefts, while also assisting officers interacting with folks in need of health and wellbeing support. Huge congratulations to the San Francisco Police Department for delivering on the promise of Proposition E from March 2024 and for Mayor Daniel Lurie’s support in fighting crime throughout the city. https://lnkd.in/gbujHXDC

TASER energy weapons continue to help protect more lives in more places. Thank you to the City of Buenos Aires Police for their commitment to using cutting-edge public safety technology to help protect life. Officers recently deployed a TASER to safely de-escalate a situation involving an individual threatening self-harm. With the right training and less-lethal options, they were able to resolve the incident without the use of lethal force. #Axon #ProtectLife

    CEO at Axon (Formerly TASER)

What does it look like to stop a deadly threat without taking a life? It looks like courage--like calm under pressure. It looks like the future Jack Cover envisioned when he invented the TASER energy weapon — and the future we committed to when we began this journey 30 years ago. One of my favorite moments at Axon Week is our awards ceremony where we recognize those who’ve gone above and beyond — including the Jack Cover Save of the Year. This individual is selected from our ongoing Jack Cover Medal of Heroism recipients, which recognizes first responders who chose a less-lethal path in the face of deadly threats. While we’ll spotlight one individual on stage in two weeks, every single one of these stories matters. In the days leading up to Axon Week, I’ll be sharing a few...because these are the ones that deserve to be told. This past year alone, we received over 90 submissions for this prestigious recognition. They’re powerful, emotional reminders of what’s possible when officers are equipped with the right tools, the right mindset, and an unwavering commitment to their communities. To those out there making these moments happen — we want to hear from you.  Visit Axon.com/awards to learn more and submit your Jack Cover nominees by emailing awards@axon.com. You can nominate a recipient at any time throughout the year. These are the people carrying Jack Cover’s legacy forward — using TASER energy weapons not just to stop threats, but to create better outcomes. Thank you for all you do to protect more lives in more places. #protectlife #moonshot50in10

When a man armed with a 12” butcher knife threatened to take his own life, Hillsborough County deputies Howes and Gullage didn’t hesitate. They scaled a locked fence, located hidden victims and moved quickly through the home — determined to bring everyone to safety. As the subject grew more agitated, Deputy Howes made a split-second decision to transition from his firearm to TASER 7. Because of his bold choice, there were no shots fired and every life was preserved inside the Florida home, including the armed suspect. Their courageous, life-saving actions earned the deputies the Jack Cover Medal of Heroism — a testament to what’s possible when officers are equipped to act with precision, purpose and care. The 2025 Jack Cover “Save of the Year” Award Winner will be crowned at #AxonWeek25. #Axon #ProtectLife
