Looking back on Avocat Group's journey with flexible work, it honestly feels like we’ve learned so much, and some of those lessons came from trial and error! Embracing remote work has truly changed how we operate, how we connect, and how we get things done. It’s been a wild ride, but here’s what stands out the most: → The right tools really do make or break it. In the beginning, we learned the hard way that without the right tools, working remotely can feel like everyone’s working in silos. As a team, we needed to make sure we had the right tech to stay connected, celebrate wins, and keep each other engaged. It took some time to get it right, but once we did, things clicked. → Nothing beats in-person connections! As much as I love the flexibility of working from anywhere, I’ve realized that face-to-face moments are irreplaceable. Whether it's an offsite, a coffee chat, or a quick brainstorm in the same room, those in-person connections are what help keep our creativity and energy alive. It’s these moments that strengthen our bond as a team, and honestly, they keep me motivated. → Trust is the foundation of everything. One of the most powerful things about flexible work is the trust it shows our team. Giving people the freedom to work where they’re most comfortable has created such a positive and productive environment. It’s amazing to see how much people thrive when they feel trusted to manage their own time and space. 

As Avocat Group celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, I'm reflecting on my own 27-year journey here and the client relationships that have made it so meaningful. One partnership stands out above all. In 1998, I began working with a young company leasing a modest 30,000 SF space. Little did I know this would become one of the most rewarding client relationships of my career. Over two decades, my partner and I watched them grow through expansions, mergers, and acquisitions. We navigated a strategic relocation in 2005 to a single-tenant building with essential rail access, positioning them for their next phase of growth. What made this relationship special wasn't just the transactions - it was the annual check-ins, the genuine interest in their business evolution, and the friendships formed with their partners and operations team along the way. The culmination came in 2019 when, after years of searching for the perfect property to purchase (a goal they first mentioned around 2012), we helped them acquire a 68,000 SF building just minutes from their existing location. Seeing them settle into a space that perfectly suited their operations - more than double their original footprint - was immensely satisfying. Though I don't speak with their ownership group as frequently now, I take pride knowing they're thriving in a space that truly works for their business. Their journey from tenant to property owner mirrors what we strive for at our firm: building lasting relationships that help clients achieve their long-term real estate goals. This story exemplifies why I've dedicated 27 years to this profession and to Avocat Group: witnessing clients grow from promising startups to established enterprises, and playing a small but meaningful role in their success. Feeling energized here at Data Center World AFCOM, surrounded by so many incredible minds shaping the future of tech! I had the privilege of hearing Lucia Tian, Head of Clean Energy & Decarbonization Technologies at Google, share her fascinating insights on how we can harness nuclear technology to power the next generation of advanced data centers. The potential for sustainable energy solutions in this space is truly revolutionary and her perspective left me inspired and excited about the role this technology will play in the future of data centers. The intersection of clean energy and innovation is completely transforming how we think about powering some of the most demanding infrastructures in the world. It’s always tough being forced out of the office to go fishing, but we survived… blue skies, great company, and plenty of fish at this year’s FL Institute of CFOs (fiCFO) Fishing Tournament. A big thank you to fiCFO and everyone involved in planning and running such a seamless event, and to all of the sponsors and captains who put us on the fish and made sure everything ran smoothly on the water.
