Meet Laurie, one of our incredible Regs who has been volunteering with Austin Habitat for the past year and a half! After retiring from her role as a school principal in Qatar and returning to Austin, Laurie was looking for a meaningful way to give back—and she found it on our build sites. What keeps her coming back? The inspiring people she meets, the chance to learn new skills, and the thrill of mastering power tools. This #NationalVolunteerMonth, we're proud to celebrate Laurie and all the Regs who help make affordable homeownership possible in our community!

We build Homes, Communities and Hope.
About us
Austin Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Austin Habitat focuses on the holistic experience of homeownership as a catalyst for community change. Austin Habitat goes beyond the well-known new homeownership program by also offering critical home repairs to low-income homeowners and housing counseling to the general Austin community. Our programs are designed to develop and preserve strong communities by providing comprehensive services that prepare homebuyers for the responsibilities of homeownership, incentivize long-term ownership, and keep existing homeowners in their homes.

We had an impactful discussion on Central Texas's affordable housing crisis at a panel hosted by The Giving Institute. As the region grows, essential workers, including teachers, nurses, and first responders, are facing long commutes and rising costs, which threaten community stability. Panelists included: Mike Nellis, CEO of Austin Community Foundation Vero Sandoval, UFCU and Austin Habitat Family Partner Michele Anderson, CEO of Austin Habitat Dr. Rev Daryl Horton, Mt. Zion Baptist Church & Austin Habitat Board Chair They shared solutions for tackling this challenge through advocacy, collective impact, and innovative fundraising. Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation. If we work together, we can build a more affordable future for Central Texas.

April is National Volunteer Month, and we’re celebrating our incredible Regs—our long-term, dedicated volunteers who earn their status and coveted gray hardhats through their commitment to our mission. Meet Devin, a Reg who has been volunteering with Austin Habitat for three years! His passion for giving back runs in the family—his father was a Reg with Habitat for Humanity in Louisville, KY. Devin first picked up a hammer with us during a group volunteer day with his employer, and after retiring, he made Habitat a regular part of his life. For Devin, the most rewarding part of volunteering is working alongside future homeowners, hearing their stories, and helping turn their dreams of homeownership into reality. 🏡 Thank you, Devin, for your commitment to building a better Austin!
