Happy National Gopher Tortoise Day! 🐢🎉 Today we celebrate the gopher tortoise, a keystone species in the Southeast whose burrows shelter over 350 other animals! These ecosystem engineers are vital to biodiversity, but face threats from habitat loss. 🌱 Good news: Florida golf courses are stepping up as conservation partners, providing safe, managed spaces for gopher tortoises to thrive. Let’s keep supporting efforts to protect these amazing reptiles and the habitats they create! 💚 #GreenGolf Photo Credits: Floridian National Golf Club, The Sanctuary Golf Club

A Global Leader in Environmental Education & Certification
About us
Mission To deliver high-quality environmental education and to facilitate the sustainable management of land, water, wildlife, and other natural resources in all places people live, work, and play. History In 1987, the Audubon Society of New York State was born, or perhaps more accurately, reborn. First established nearly 100 years earlier by conservation giants Theodore Roosevelt, Frank Chapman, and John Burroughs, this original Audubon group from New York ceased meeting by the mid-1930s. Nearly five decades later, Ronald G. Dodson re-established the organization as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit under a broader banner of environmental education and sustainable resource management. Very quickly, the reach of the environmental education and certification programs expanded beyond New York. As a result, in 1996, the organization began doing business as Audubon International to better reflect the true scope of its operations. Although, we have no formal affiliation with the National Audubon Society or the other 500-plus Audubon organizations worldwide, we work with and partner with many of these groups to promote common goals. Through education, technical assistance, certification, and recognition, Audubon International facilitates the implementation of environmental management practices that ensure natural resources are sustainably used and conserved.

🚨 Beware of Greenwashing in Travel! ✈️ With over 80% of travelers saying sustainable travel is important to them, some hotels may exaggerate their eco-friendly practices—a tactic known as greenwashing. 🌿 What Does True Sustainability Look Like? 🌍 Minimizing environmental impact (e.g., renewable energy, reducing waste) 🤝 Supporting local communities (e.g., partnerships with local nonprofits) 🏫 Educating travelers on conservation and responsible practices How to Spot Greenwashing: ✅ Look for Proof: Check for credible certifications (like our Audubon International Signature Sanctuary Certification) ✅ Seek Transparency: Real initiatives come with clear data and reports, not vague claims ✅ Assess Local Impact: Does the business truly support the community or just profit from it? ✅ Ask Directly: Speak to staff—if sustainability is core, they’ll know the details Sustainability should make a real difference, not just look good on paper! 🌱 💚 #Sustainability #SustainableTravel #GreenHospitality #AudubonInternational #Greenwashing #Ecofriendly #GreenHotels #GreenTourism #SustainableTourism https://lnkd.in/e4NBEXz6
