  • ʻAʻa i ka hula! "The residents had so much fun learning the basics of hula," shares Marissa, Receptionist at Atria Park of Vintage Hills. Finding her love for Polynesian dancing in 2012, she danced professionally for two years. "It's been a while since I performed, but I still dance on my own because it's one of my passions." By leading a hula dance class at her community, Marissa shared her passion with residents. "Their faces and spirits lit up the room! One of the residents wanted faster-paced music, so I turned on Polynesian drum beats, and they all danced in perfect rhythm to it." Dressed in leis and sarongs, residents were fully immersed in this cultural celebration. "I loved seeing the energy and creative expression take over and transport them into the present moment, a place of paradise," adds Marissa. "The Spirit of Aloha was very much alive that day, and it truly was a blessing to serve them in that way." 🌺

  • Gay, a resident at Atria Rocklin, has spent 64 years bringing her artistic visions to life. A business school graduate, she didn't discover her love for art until age 26, after her daughter was born. "Painting brought me so much joy that I felt like I could levitate," she shares. She has painted large-scale landscapes, Western scenes and animals, selling originals and prints to make a living. She loves painting on location to capture the beauty of nature. "You can tell in one of my paintings how cold it was outside because I didn't paint as much detail into it," she laughs. Gay advises young artists to seek mentors and remember, "Art is not just about what the artist feels, but what it makes the audience feel."

  • Swing, batter batter! It's opening day for Major League Baseball! Residents at Atria Seville are warming up for the season and are ready to root root root for the home team. "I don't want to brag, but I was a star of my softball team through my school years, including college," Betty shares candidly. Ed, who almost exclusively wears St. Louis Cardinals t-shirts, has been a fan since he was three years old, remembering listening to games with his dad and grandad. "Back then it was only on the radio. My favorite part is the sound of the cheers when the Cardinals hit a home run – the ball cracking the bat, the excited announcer and the crowd going crazy!"

Green thumb and plant enthusiast for 50 years, Sally's apartment at Atria El Camino Gardens is cozy, eclectic and full of charm. Her love of plants started in her 20s when she lived with her grandmother. "Be sure to use the correct lighting, soil combinations, organic fertilizer and humidity," she advises. "Join online local Facebook plant groups. The plant community has interesting and helpful people in it. I've met so many younger people this way." Whether she is leading weekly bible study, helping new residents as a Resident Ambassador, or crafting in her apartment, she and her cat Coco are right at home. 🏠🐱❤️🪴
