On Friday, April 4, 2025, the Georgia General Assembly met for the 40th and final day of the 2025 legislative session, known as Sine Die. Both the House and Senate gaveled out relatively early in the evening hours compared to past session. There were significant legislative wins and notable outcomes, especially on bills highlighted by our AGC Governmental Affairs team. Key updates include: Senate Bill 12: Public Records Requests - Passed and headed to the Governor’s desk Senate Bill 125: This bill became what is known as as "Christmas Tree Bill" - often unrelated bills get amended to the original bill as a way to find succesful passage. Several other bills "decorated" this original bill, including House Bill 187, which included specialty contractor trades licensing rewrite language. The bill passed with many amendments and now awaits Governor Kemps consideration. Senate Bill 207: Second Chance Hiring/Preclearance process for those with criminal records- Failed to cross the finish line. SB 51: Qualifications-based selection for architects & engineers - Failed to cross the finish line. With the 2025 session now officially over, bills that passed both legislative bodies now await the Governor's decision. Stay tuned for further updates as we monitor the Governor’s action on these bills. We'd like to share a heartfelt thank you to our members for their support during this session! #GAlegislation #SineDie #GeorgiaPolitics #AGC #GovernmentAffairs #PublicPolicy
