These were rough but practical approximations for architecture and astronomy. 🔹 Archimedes’ Breakthrough – Around 250 BCE, Archimedes of Syracuse devised a geometric method using polygons to bound the value of π. By inscribing and circumscribing a circle with 96-sided polygons, he estimated π between 3.1408 and 3.1429—a huge leap forward! 🔹 Medieval Innovations – In the 5th century, Chinese mathematician Zu Chongzhi pushed the precision to seven decimal places (3.1415926) using a similar polygon method, a record that stood for nearly 1,000 years. 🔹 Calculus Changes Everything – The 17th century brought new tools.
