A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology evaluated the efficacy of hyaluronidase in degrading different types of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers and provided clinical guidelines for its use. Hyaluronidase efficacy was found to vary based on the type of HA filler and the enzyme’s concentration. Biphasic fillers dissolved more rapidly at lower concentrations of hyaluronidase compared to monophasic fillers, which required higher concentrations and longer exposure times for effective breakdown. The study also demonstrated that direct injection of hyaluronidase into the filler mass was more effective than surface application. Pharmacokinetic analysis revealed that hyaluronidase activity diminished within 30 minutes in biological tissues, highlighting the need for timely intervention in clinical scenarios. The authors’ clinical recommendations include using direct injection techniques, tailoring hyaluronidase dosage based on the filler type, and considering hypersensitivity reactions. https://lnkd.in/gh9FVTMc

About us
The American Academy of Dermatology is a non-profit medical specialty association founded in 1938. The work we do on behalf of our members, their patients, and the public is guided by our mission to promote leadership in dermatology and excellence in patient care through education, research and advocacy. With over 200 employees, we support the largest, most influential and representative dermatology group in the United States. With a membership of more than 20,500, the AAD represents virtually all practicing dermatologists in the United States, as well as a growing number of international dermatologists. The AAD is committed to advancing the diagnosis and medical, surgical, and cosmetic treatment of the skin, hair, and nails; advocating high standards in clinical practice, education, and research in dermatology; and supporting and enhancing patient care for a lifetime of healthier skin. The American Academy of Dermatology Association is the sister organization to the AAD, and is the resource for government affairs as well as health policy and practice information for dermatologists. It plays a major role in formulating policies that can enhance the quality of dermatologic care. Medical students from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Sharon Rivas, Courtney Chau, and Capriana J., helped deliver skin health education to children of the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem using AAD’s Good Skin Knowledge lesson plans. Students learned about taking care of their skin, acne, sun-safety, bug bites, and plants during the four-week program. This initiative was made possible thanks to the support of AAD’s Art of Skin event held this past September.

I’m so grateful to the American Academy of Dermatology and my good friend Dr. Seemal Desai - the immediate past president of the AAD - for this honor. Chairing the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Community Programs Committee was such a rewarding experience for me. I appreciate the opportunity and a chance to contribute to this very important issue.
