About us

Founded in 1996, Alexandria House is a house of hospitality and hope. Our goal is to provide safe and supportive housing for women and children experiencing homelessness and trauma. Alexandria House offers a continuum of support as people move from crisis situations to financial and emotional stability, and ultimately to permanent housing. We also serve our broader community by providing wellness, educational and enrichment opportunities and resources to meet the basic needs for our neighbors. We are intentionally multicultural and anti-racist and are committed to addressing the systemic injustices that keep women and families disenfranchised and living in poverty.

  • We are all feeling anxious and these are trying times. Imagine facing this current moment as a single mom with no place to live, a woman struggling to get back on her feet as a domestic violence survivor, an immigrant unsure of her safety. These are the women who turn to Alexandria House. We continue to be committed to providing the housing and needed supportive services (counseling, child care, help with education and employment) that our community needs. But the needs are greater and everything is more expensive: food, utilities, diapers, toothpaste... Our annual Walkathon is this upcoming Saturday, and is an opportunity to meet immediate needs, work for justice, foster belonging, and build a lasting community of support. Join us if you can, but even if you can't come, it would mean the world to us if you could make a donation. We welcome all contributions, big and small! Here's the link to show your support. You'll also find information about how to register for the event if you'd like to celebrate with us. https://lnkd.in/dfxNmuQP

  • Just nine days until the Alexandria House community of alumni, staff, volunteers and supporters step into action at our 9th Annual Walkathin - Walking Forward in Community. In a year that has started with so much distress with the wildfires and executive actions impacting the most vulnerable among us, let's come together in community. Let's remind ourselves and each other that love and community can overcome all! We look forward to seeing you! https://lnkd.in/dfxNmuQP

  • We are less than two weeks away from our 9th Annual Walkathon - Walking Forward in Community. Our Walkathon this year is not just about raising funds, though these are critical to offering services to the people we serve. In today's climate, it is a call to action to our friends, supporters, collaboratiing partners and service recipients to lock arms in support of each other. More than ever, in this ever changing climate, the one thing that remains unchanged is that this work cannot be done alone. We need community! Please join us on Saturday, March 22nd and demonstrate your willingness to partner with us. We can't wait to see you! https://lnkd.in/dfxNmuQP

  • Our ED invites you to join us for our 9th Annual Walkathon - Walking Forward in Community on March 22, 2025 at Mount St. Mary's - Doheny Campus!

Being a part of Alexandria House for the past 2 1/2 years has been transformative for me. It has challenged me in ways I have never been challenged before. And in doing so, it has given me a glimpse into what life is like for the women and families we serve that find themselves in circumstances they never thought they would. But the most beautiful thing of this all is that this is just a moment in time for them. And the opportunity to be a part of Alexandria House during challenging times in their lives is helping them tap into the resiliency inherent in them to achieve housing and financial stability. I invite you to join our movement in being a small stepping stone in the journey of women and families who call Alexandria House home for now as they rebuild their lives and shift the trajectory of their lives and the lives of their children. Together, we can provide them the support they need in this moment to become who they are meant to be. • In times like these when our beloved City is collectively mourning, we look for ways to to control what we cannot control. And one good way of doing so is helping others. So we invite you to partner with us to help those communities that are affected. We will ensure that your donations get to those who need them the most right now.
