About us
The mission of the Division of Alaska State Troopers is to preserve the peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, and protect life and property. The Division is comprised of posts assigned to five geographic detachments that provide patrol, enforcement, and search and rescue to all areas of the state and a central headquarters. The Alaska State Troopers' eight core missions in meeting these responsibilities are: 1. Maintain public peace and order. 2. Enforce criminal laws and investigate violations of those laws. 3. Enforce traffic laws and regulations and investigate violations of those laws and regulations. 4. Conduct and manage search and rescue operations. 5. Support and assist other law enforcement and governmental agencies. 6. Investigate allegations of human abuse or neglect. 7. Respond to the concerns and inquiries of citizens. 8. Provide current and relevant training to law enforcement and criminal justice agencies.

With perfect weather for winter flying, last week, 14 pilots from the Alaska Wildlife Troopers and Alaska State Troopers took to the skies around Glennallen with five instructors to practice winter ski flying. Topics included a variety of challenging takeoff and landing scenarios and annual check-rides.

In memoriam: On this day in 2013, Alaska State Trooper Tage Toll and AST Pilot Mel Nading were performing a search and rescue of an injured snowmachiner in a remote area just east of Talkeetna. After locating the snowmachiner, they were headed back to Talkeetna when Helo-1 crashed. Trooper Toll, Pilot Nading and the snowmachiner all perished.

Search and Rescue is just one of the many jobs that Alaska Wildlife and Alaska State Troopers are responsible for. Earlier this week, AWT was notified of a snowmachiner injured in an accident. Helo 2 responded and was able to transport the injured rider to Cantwell EMS where he could be taken to a hospital. Are you interested in helping others? In memoriam: On this day in 2013, VPSO Thomas Madole went to interview a suspect in a domestic violence incident in Manokotak. Upon arriving at the suspect’s residence, VPSO Madole was ambushed. VPSO Madole was shot and killed while he attempted to seek cover. VPSO Madole served as a Village Public Safety Officer in the village for 1-1/2 years.
