  • Labor Department employees can now access two OpenAI models through the company’s partnership with Microsoft Azure, making the agency the latest to integrate generative AI into its workflow. The two OpenAI models now available to Labor staff are GPT-4o and GPT-4o mini, according to documents viewed by FedScoop. The agency’s platform for the OpenAI tech suggests that staff use the technology for specific applications, including a language translator, a “pros and cons analyzer,” and a memo writer. A large document analyzer and document comparison tool are also available in the interface. https://hubs.li/Q03jHr0r0

  • Early into his tenure as head of U.S. Transportation Command, Air Force Gen. Randall Reed is keen to expand the hub’s application of data analytics and artificial intelligence, including via the Maven Smart System, to inform decision-making and enhance operational efficiency, he told DefenseScoop. Reed — a command pilot with more than 3,500 flight hours — held a variety of joint, headquarters, and base-level roles, and steered a numbered air force, wing, expeditionary operations groups, and a flying training squadron before he assumed leadership at Transcom late last year. https://hubs.li/Q03jHnnH0

  • At #AITalks 2025, Jamison Braun, VP of Global Public Sector for Salesforce, and Shelby Kivett, Principal Solution Engineer for Salesforce, explored how AI agents are transforming the federal workforce. In their session, Braun and Kivett introduced the Agentic Enterprise Maturity Model — a framework for understanding how government agencies can evolve from rule-based automation to orchestrated, multi-agent AI ecosystems. They discussed how AI agents are already augmenting public sector operations across critical domains, from fraud detection and resource allocation to citizen engagement and health diagnostics — and what it takes to scale this transformation responsibly.

  • Amy Gilliland, president of General Dynamics Information Technology, and Goldy Kamali, Founder & CEO of Scoop News Group, discussed how GDIT is applying artificial intelligence at mission speed to meet the growing demands of a tech-forward federal government, and how the organization is supporting recent executive directives to integrate commercial technology into government AI strategies. Gilliland also shared insight into how the private sector can accelerate innovation and help position the United States as a global leader in AI — a top priority for the current administration. #AITalks

Hello #AI enthusiasts! I am in DC today at AI Talks at my favorite DC hotel, Waldorf Astoria. In 2023 I trained 100 #DoD staff on Human-AI collaboration in the Workplace as part of the MIT Executive Education program for DoD. First generation of AI aware DoD staff… from Air Force to Human Resources. 2023 seems so long ago.. but it gives you an example when DoD had an “Aha” moment (somewhere around 2002). Hearing the military talk about the importance of responsible AI governance makes me proud;) And Of’course all the talk is about openAI open source vs. private AI and agentic AI. If you are around… say hi! #aigovernance #aieducation #humancentricai #ai #artificialintelligence #agenticAI

  • Dr. Mike Horton, acting chief AI officer at the U.S. Department of Transportation, kicked off #AITalks with a a bold message during his keynote: the government must go all in on building an AI-powered future — and that starts with reshaping how we think about technology, people and purpose. Dr. Horton outlined DOT’s vision for a human-centered, AI-enabled workforce — one where every AI application is treated as a digital employee: fast, consistent and scalable, but only as capable as the data it’s trained on and the values it’s built with. He introduced the concept of the DOT AI Factory, a structured model designed to: • Elevate productivity • Increase efficiency • Manage risk • Educate AI systems on mission, ethics and operational nuance From basic process automation to cross-functional decision support, Dr. Horton emphasized the importance of performance feedback, risk controls at the AI “employee” level, and designing for collaboration across intelligent agents. His message: AI isn’t a tool to replace people — it’s an opportunity for people to use AI to strengthen the systems that serve them.

  • Alexis Bonnell has stepped down from her positions at the Air Force Research Laboratory and transitioned to a new job at OpenAI, the company responsible for the development of ChatGPT. In 2023, Bonnell was tapped to serve as AFRL’s first-ever chief information officer and director of the laboratory’s Digital Capabilities Directorate, where she led the lab’s information technology strategy and overall modernization efforts. According to a Tuesday post on LinkedIn, Bonnell is now working at OpenAI as a partnership manager, a position she took on in March. “The role [at AFRL] was truly one in a lifetime — serving the national security mission alongside some of the most brilliant scientists, engineers, and digital visionaries in the country,” Bonnell wrote. “From cybersecurity to networks and infrastructure, from enterprise service design to pushing the frontiers of AI, I couldn’t be more proud of what we built together—or more confident in the team carrying the mission forward.” https://hubs.li/Q03jHndb0
