They’re on the floor, in the lab, in the field—quietly protecting worker health and safety. OEHS professionals are the unsung heroes of our workplaces. We’re celebrating them with our Special Conference Edition AI OEHS Action Figures, spotlighting the people behind the profession. We’re also raising funds to support current and recently terminated Federal OEHS workers to help them go to AIHA Connect 2025—many of whom have been impacted by recent travel restrictions and layoffs, including the termination of most NIOSH civilian employees. Your support will help them attend the conference, stay connected to the profession, and access critical learning, networking, and job opportunities. https://lnkd.in/ehPMQYJw Inspired by: Tim Paz, CIH Made by: Lizandro M.* #AIHAConnect #RestoreNIOSH #WorkerHealthandSafety #OccupationalHygiene #Safety #PublicHealth

About us
Founded in 1939, AIHA is a nonprofit organization serving professionals dedicated to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, control, and confirmation of environmental stressors in or arising from the workplace that may result in injury, illness, impairment, or affect the well-being of workers and members of the community. We provide comprehensive education programs and other products and services that help its members maintain the highest professional standards. More than half of the nearly 8,500 members are certified industrial hygienists (CIHs), and many hold other professional designations. AIHA serves as a resource for those employed in the industrial, consulting, academic, and government sectors.

On April 1, several NIOSH civilian employees were put on leave. Additionally, many federal employees are currently facing restrictions on federal travel, which could impact the ability of OEHS professionals to engage in professional development activities. These professionals play a role in supporting the health and safety of workers across the country. Access to continuing education, peer collaboration, and career support is important, particularly during periods of transition. Contributions can help cover expenses for attending AIHA Connect 2025, including registration for selected speakers, volunteers, and federal OEHS professionals affected by recent changes. https://lnkd.in/ewPKpvsy #RestoreNIOSH #OEHSCareers #AIHAConnect #WorkerHealthandSafety

PRESS RELEASE: We have launched a national campaign to restore funding and staffing for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, following devastating federal cuts that would reduce the agency to a fraction of its original workforce. These cuts threaten programs critical to worker health and safety, including mining research, PPE certification, and more. https://lnkd.in/ep5FBZ29 #ReinstateNIOSH #PressRelease #WorkerHealthandSafety #OccupationalHealthandSafety

#restoreniosh #workerhealth #oehs #publichealth #advocacy | American Industrial Hygiene Association (#AIHA) Funding and workforce reductions at NIOSH threaten decades of progress in protecting worker health and safety. #AIHA, along with over 450 concerned organizations, have signed onto the attached letter to Congress. Our message: Reinstate #NIOSH staff immediately. NIOSH matters—to workers, to businesses, and to the health of our nation. If we want to "Make America Healthy Again", this is the right thing to do. The Senate HELP Committee is meeting with U.S Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kennedy this week, and the future of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health is at risk. Funding and workforce reductions at NIOSH threaten decades of progress in protecting worker health and safety. We must act now to defend its mission. Over 2,100 messages have already been sent to legislators. This World Health Day, you can join the growing call for action. We've made it easy: send a message through our automated system in seconds, download our letter template, or call your representatives directly. Every action counts. Following up on their March 11 discussion, AIHA’s Chief Science Officer, Michele Twilley, DrPH, CIH, and Dawn Bolstad-Johnson, MPH, CIH, CSP, FAIHA, continued their crucial conversation on assessing structures damaged by fire. This time, they discuss the complexities of evaluating homes impacted by smoke and heat, even those not directly burned. Homeowners face chronic exposure to fire emissions, unlike the acute exposure experienced by firefighters. Comprehensive sampling beyond visible soot is essential, including evaluation of wall cavities, ductwork, and porous materials. AIHA’s Real-Time Detection Systems Committee is preparing guidance on post-wildfire sampling to help industrial hygienists and homeowners understand the complex nature of fire damage. "The built environment now is like a box that's just holding on to the smoke, the fire debris, the chemicals, and all this stuff is swirling around. And now the porous stuff in the house becomes the reservoir." - Dawn Bolstad-Johnson.
