A hidden patient safety risk? Contaminated support surfaces. At last week's American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) 2025 Conference, our VP of Product Management and Clinical Affairs, Kristen Thurman, shared eye-opening insights on the impact of contaminated support surfaces on patient safety. A recent convenience sample of support surfaces revealed that for an average 400-bed hospital, after 5 years, 74% of its "typical" support surfaces needed replacing, costing $444,000. But those support surfaces that included our CoreShield™ technology? None needed a full replacement, and only 17% needed new top covers — bringing the total cost down to just $13,600. 💡 The takeaway? Worn or damaged support surfaces that are constructed out of "typical" materials can let fluids inside, posing a serious infection risk. Choosing support surfaces that are made of the right materials makes all the difference. Learn more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gtQhnnTq
Thank you to those who connected with us at the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) 2025 Conference! From showcasing our new Essentia™ bed and Adapt line™ of support surfaces, to Kristen Thurman's presentations on how contaminated support surfaces impact patient safety, we covered it all for those who stopped by our booth. A huge thank you to everyone who made it an inspiring event!
Hospitals today are equipped with more advanced technology than ever. However, managing an increasing volume of more sophisticated medical equipment can stretch the capacity of CE teams, in a time where many teams are already short staffed and stretched thin. Supplemental clinical engineering services can enhance your CE team's efforts, providing support on preventive maintenance or repairs. Give time back to your team so they can focus on high-end equipment and critical priorities that keep you moving forward. Swipe through to see how we can support you. ⏩
We’re live from the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) 2025 Inspiring Leaders Conference! Be sure to visit us at booth #1349, so you can: ➡️ Get up close to Essentia™ – our brand-new, multi-acuity bed frame that can support patients across different clinical settings. ➡️ See our Adapt line™ of therapeutic support surfaces, which deliver high performance across multiple patient acuities. ➡️ Hear Kristen Thurman, our VP of Product Management and Clinical Affairs, give a live presentation on the top of every hour on how contaminated support surfaces impact patient safety.
Support surfaces are built to last — but are they really holding up? Did you know that 50% of acute care support surfaces are compromised within just 3.8 years, and the risk of failure jumps 67.6% each additional year? When a patient rests on a compromised surface, they are more likely to develop an infection. The numbers don't lie: Patients placed in beds previously occupied by someone with an infection are up to six times more likely to contract one themselves. So what’s the solution? Our General Manager of Beds and Therapeutic Support Surfaces Tim McCarty breaks it down in Healthcare Business Today, sharing key insights on how to mitigate risk related to your foam support surfaces. Foam support surfaces are one of the most overlooked high-use items in a hospital. Their integrity is vital to patient outcomes. When they’re compromised, there is potential infection risk and cross-contamination, among other concerns. So how do you know what to look for? We’ve created a step-by-step audit guide to help you assess and diagnose potential problem areas for your foam support surfaces. This guide includes instructions for how to complete an audit, along with pictures and signs of what you’ll need to look for when identifying compromised surfaces. Give your patients and staff peace of mind. Download the guide.👇 https://lnkd.in/gCATW_sb #SupportSurfaces #PatientSafety #HospitalEquipment
On top of everyday wear and tear, support surface top covers are at risk for degradation due to repeated and frequent exposure to harsh disinfectants, many of which are meant for hard surfaces. When used incorrectly, these cleaners can create micro-holes long before visible damage appears and more quickly degrade the surface. For patients and hospitals, that can lead to serious problems. Our VP of Product Management and Clinical Affairs, Kristen Thurman, recently published a study in Advances in Skin & Wound Care, where she explored the challenges of cleaning and disinfecting support surfaces in hospital settings – and the impact of damaged surfaces on patient safety, surface longevity and the hidden costs of improper care and maintenance of support surfaces. High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is at the cutting edge of therapeutic technology for prostate cancer treatment using targeted ablation, providing a non-invasive option that is quite impactful for patients. In that spirit, we are excited to support more cases across the country, and we absolutely have to congratulate Dr. Mourad Abouelleil and the team at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL ,and our partners at Sonablate Corp. for performing their first case with a Sonablate HIFU! Great work, everyone! 👏
Congratulations to Dr. Mourad Abouelleil and the team at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL, who performed their first case with Sonablate HIFU this week! We are thrilled to have you on board, Dr. Abouelleil. With our new LUX software, it has never been easier to integrate HIFU into your prostate practice, and our partners at Agiliti (like technician Jamie Abrams, shown at left) can even mobilize the platform to bring it to you just when you need it.
