We’re proud to share a meaningful project we completed with Guiding Eyes for the Blind — a nonprofit that provides expertly trained guide dogs to people with vision loss, giving them greater confidence, mobility, and independence. A. DeVito & Son had the honor of completing a multi-phase project at their facility beginning in 2015, which included both new construction and extensive renovation to the existing building. The project spanned multiple years and was thoughtfully executed in stages — allowing Guiding Eyes to remain fully operational while construction progressed. A. DeVito & Son, Inc. embodies the American Dream—a testament to hard work, dedication, and generational craftsmanship. The story began at the turn of the 20th century when a young Italian immigrant arrived in Mount Vernon, NY, with nothing but a vision for a better future. Here, Giacomo DeVito, the family's patriarch, laid the foundation for what would become a legacy. Establishing a masonry contracting firm, he built a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, unwavering integrity, and a deep commitment to his customers. As demand for his expertise grew, he brought his son, Anthony, into the business to help expand operations. By 1961, Anthony and his only son, Jack, officially incorporated the business under its namesake, A. DeVito & Son, Inc. With a shared passion for construction, they broadened their scope, shifting into residential home construction and development. In the mid-1970s, upon graduating from college, John DeVito became the fourth-generation member to join the company, working alongside his father and grandfather. With renewed energy and ambition, he helped expand the company’s footprint into the commercial sector, taking on high-profile clients such as IBM, PepsiCo, Guiding Eyes for the Blind, and many local businesses. Under John’s leadership, A. DeVito & Son, Inc. became a firm without limits—capable of executing projects of all sizes and complexities.
