📢 This past month, #StoptheHateLA and AAPI Equity Alliance joined partners in fighting for our communities' rights and belonging. ➡️ We're proud to use our voice alongside community partners across the state during #Immigrant Day of Action and at meetings with local elected officials in Los Angeles. 🧡 We’re just getting started. Next month, we'll be in Sacramento joining 173 Stop the Hate partners for the Statewide Convening and Day of Action to share our stories with policymakers to stop hate in #California. 🙌 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gd-kNpFj

Thank you to Cynthia Choi, Manjusha P. Kulkarni, and the Stop AAPI Hate Coalition for bringing us together and for inviting our Executive Director, Khydeeja Alam to share CAPIAA’s priorities. Commissioner David Yee, MD, MPH also joined this important event. The California Commission on Asian & Pacific Islander American Affairs was founded on the strength of community advocacy and collective empowerment—to uplift the voices, contributions, and challenges of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (#AANHPI) communities across California. Hate is not new. Our communities have faced discrimination, xenophobia, and violence for decades and it’s not just the AANHPI communities. Black, Indigenous, Latino, LGBTQ+, immigrant, and religious minority communities are all under attack. But we know that when one community is under attack, we all must stand up for one another. We have to demand more—from our leaders, from our institutions, and from each other. We are grateful to Assemblymembers Alex T. Lee and Matt Haney for authoring the birthright citizenship resolution, Asm. Mike Fong for sharing remarks, and all legislative members in attendance including Asms. Mike Gipson, Jessica Caloza, Tasha Boerner, and John Harabedian who joined the reception.

So proud of our team and all those who spoke up against hate over these past 5 years. ❤️
💭 “I hope and strongly believe that our communities are stronger, that we’re more equipped to handle the challenges of today” – Manjusha P. Kulkarni (Stop AAPI Hate, AAPI Equity Alliance) Five years after our founding, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders continue to face enormous challenges – from anti-immigrant policies to the growing climate of fear and division. But one thing remains true: our collective strength is abundant, and we’ll continue to use it to turn our pain into power for our communities. Thank you to AP’s Terry Tang for telling the story of how our coalition has continued to galvanize a nationwide movement to combat anti-AAPI hate. 💡 Read more: https://lnkd.in/g4xut6Wa

Thank you to these bold leaders for defending birthright citizenship, passing the API Equity budget and championing the civil rights of all Californians! 📸 Photos by Vicky Yoon #CALeg #SAHinSac
