The American Advertising Federation - Tampa Bay exists to support its members, the community, and the advertising industry. The AAF Tampa Bay (American Advertising Federation of Tampa Bay) is a chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), which was established in 1967 when two regional advertising organizations joined forces: The Advertising Association of the West (AAW) and the Advertising Federation of America (AFA). AFA and AAW’s roots date back to the early 1900s when advertising professionals identified a need to join together for the protection and promotion of their trade. AAW and AFA worked to raise the standards of advertising through education and self-regulation. In 1911 the AFA organized a national vigilance committee and launched the “truth in advertising” movement, the forerunner to Better Business Bureaus. The advent of commercial air travel and advances in telecommunications enabled AAW and AFA to better coordinate their efforts when dealing with the federal government, and eventually to coalesce, forming the AAF. Today, AAF is headquartered in Washington D.C. with a Western Region Office in San Francisco. AAF represents over 50,000 advertising men and women in all industry segments, working together to achieve the AAF mission.

This weeks Member Spotlight is our very own AAF Tampa Bay President, Ana Floriano Thompson ⭐️ Ana, what is your favorite part about working in advertising? One of the things I enjoy most is building strong relationships with clients. When there’s mutual trust and collaboration, it really feels like you’re working toward something together. It not only makes the process smoother, but it also leads to better, more impactful work. How do you see the advertising industry evolving and how are you preparing for those changes? The advertising industry is evolving fast, especially with the rise of AI, data-driven personalization, and shifting consumer expectations around authenticity and transparency. I think the future will be all about creating real, meaningful connections—less about selling, more about storytelling and value. To stay ready, I’m always learning—keeping up with new tech, trends, and platforms, but also staying grounded in the fundamentals of great creative and strong relationships. How has being a member benefited you professionally or personally? Personally I’ve had to force myself out of my introverted shell, which is always a good thing. 🚀 Introducing our new AAF Tampa Bay Member Spotlight! Each week, we’ll feature a member making an impact in the industry. First up: Mike Latka, Digital Sales Director at Strategus. #AAFTampaBay #MemberSpotlight Mike, can you tell us a little about your current role and the company you work for? I’m a Digital Sales Director at Strategus. My role is to develop and execute strategic sales plans to achieve revenue targets and drive business growth. Present and demonstrate our digital advertising solutions to key stakeholders, showcasing the Strategus value proposition and benefits. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients while providing white glove service. Strategus is a CTV first programmatic, fully managed partner. We do all the heavy lifting, talk through who clients are trying to reach, what that audience is, and then we leverage all the data inside of the geographic areas you want. Then in an omni-channel way, starting with :15 or :30 second videos we explain to the consumers “hey we are in your market, here’s what we offer. Here’s our special of the week, whatever those things are” and then from there once the niche audience we want to reach has been exposed we deliver them retargeted ads on a video and display level across all their devices, all the channels to get them to move down through the funnel and convert.
