2im Group’s Jack DiNello, E.I.T. and Carl Bova attended Airport Consultant Council’s “Airport Planning Design & Construction Symposium” in San Antonio on March 12-14, 2025. The symposium provided our professionals with a view from the airport authority perspective from around the country. The common thread amongst the airports was their universal trajectory towards growth in the coming decade. Woven into the growth was the need to address airport sustainability and resiliency. Airports from Salt Lake City, Portland, San Francisco, and Denver are grappling with risks associated with global warming and natural risk-producers such as rainstorms, fires, hurricanes, and searise. Most are heavily involved with multi-year studies that identify the problems, evaluate risks, developing planning strategies, plan implementation, cost, and effectiveness.. All studies are in progress and not yet completed. It is assured that future projects will need to address the sustainability and resilience parameter. The airports also report that their usual pipelines to the FAA are temporarily slowed with the new administration’s actions. All appear to be cautious and taking a wait-and-see approach.
