When people in a group don’t agree, start by letting everyone share their opinions without interrupting or cutting them off. Show that you’re listening by paraphrasing what they said to make sure you understood clearly. Stay calm and remind everyone that different ideas can help make better decisions. Find common ground, on things everyone can agree on, and build from there. Encourage kindness and hear out everyone's individual perspectives and stress on the fact that while opinions may differ, staying respectful is key.

My goal is to ensure that there are no misunderstandings due to poor communication skills, and understand the point of view of each person by acknowledging "where they are coming from". Non-verbal communication is the key to these kind of situations, because often people say one thing and mean something else with their body language. Also, I take into consideration their state of mind; a person who joined the discussion after having a relaxing lunch with friends can be more receptive than a person who is struggling to meet deadlines and has high stress levels. I try to keep the conversation simple and focus on one-two topics that need to be resolved immediately. And I may make a couple of jokes to lighten the atmosphere. :)

When opinions clash, I usually focus on creating a balance between structure and flexibility — allowing people to express themselves openly while keeping the conversation constructive. I make sure we all agree to respectful communication no interruptions, no personal attacks, or dismissive behaviour. Even when people disagree, I actively look for areas where they do align shared values, common concerns and highlight those to create a foundation for progress.
