Quando se trata de projeto de algoritmos, de forma geral existe um objetivo de performance e é esperado que exista uma restrição de custo. Pode-se alcançar performance com "força bruta", ou seja, usando mais e mais recursos computacionais; ou pode-se melhorar o desempenho do algoritmo em si. A melhor abordagem vem do casamento entre as premissas e as possibilidades viáveis diante da mudança que se apresenta; atribua um peso para cada caminho e simplifique a análise de impacto. A melhor solução para o momento pode não não ser a melhor solução em geral, mas pode ser suficiente para alcançar os objetivos definidos temporariamente.
